The Recording Engineer's Handbook 5th Edition [Owsinski, Bobby] on desertcart.com. *FREE* shipping on qualifying offers. The Recording Engineer's Handbook 5th Edition Review: Inspiring and Helpful - Some excellent information, both in the author's text and in the interviews with Engineers. Review: Mic your instruments like a pro - The ol' fart writes another great book to impart his recording knowledge to us. I give it 5 stars. A lot of good information on tracking your instruments, especially about micing techniques. And some conversations with other recording engineer's giving their little tips and advice. I would also recommend Warren Huart's "Home Studio Recording", Karl Coryat's "Guerrilla Home Recording", and Mixerman's "Musician's Survival Guide" and you'll be all set to either record your own songs or other people's. If you are a musician you can use all this info to produce some of your own records until you can hire your own producer so you can really focus on the music.

One of the best books on recording
I have been recording music performances since around 1968. The learning curve can be filled with inaccurate information from amateurs. Bobby Owsinski has a reputation for being among the most informed teachers. I have owned several of his books over the years and I keep myself updated with the most recent edition because I end up recommending his books to fellow audio engineers. I have even purchased an online course from Bobby. I have learned so much from his books and courses.

Amazing reference book
I've been playing in a small country band for almost 15 years and this tome is a great reference. It's not the kind of book you'll curl up with in front of a fireplace but it contains a great deal if information that useful for people who deal music and recording. I recommend it.

Many photos and diagrams missing!!!
Bought 5th edition after owning 4th edition, both for Kindle. The written content is good, but for some reason, there are a whole bunch of photos and diagrams missing from the book that show up only as a blurry red “X”. There are dozens of these throughout the book. Some missing images are just supposed to be equipment photos, but others are diagrams to illustrate key concepts from the text. This was not a problem with the 4th edition. UPDATE: Missing images finally fixed! Excellent book!

Lots of knowledge gems are shared in this book - great for learning and refererencing
This book is very well written and organized. Even just the first section alone - on microphones - is filled with well explained details and information that I had not previously found in all my googling on the topic. Super helpful book written by a very experienced recording and mixing engineer.

For many, this is considered the go-to book on recording. Used as a text book in training programs and at home on the shelves of countless studios. It is one of a couple of books that I would highly recommend for anyone interested in learning more.
