where is the missing track?
I bought this CD a while back, It is well worth the purchase just for "Sliding Through Life On Charm" alone! They are all new songs no classics thrown in to fill up space and not one is a bummer, so why the three stars? Because not all versions of the CD has the 11th track "Something Good", mine didn't and so do a lot of others. If it was not for this then 5 stars would not be enough!! Check before you buy.

Kissin time puts the faith back in faithfull
This is the album that all die hard Marianne fans have waited the past decade for. Following on from 1999's melancholy yet infectious offering, Vagabond ways, Marianne shelves contemplative, earth mother for sassy rock goddess - welcome back Marianne. The list of collaborators reads like a who's who of rock royalty, old and new - Beck, Blur, Jarvis and Billy Corrigan to name but a few. The opening track (Sex with Strangers) sets the tone for the entire album, its Marianne sultry, laid back defaint and above all the girls speaking from experience....."Time for sex with someone else?" 'The Pleasure Song', 'I'm on Fire', and 'Wherever I go all provide an insight into what Marianne's made of but 'Song for Nico' marks a point where Marianne pulls out all the stops. Without doubt the Jarvis Cocker/Faithfull penned 'Sliding through Life on Charm' is one of the albums highlights if not the sassiest offering of her career. This is Disco 2000 sung by a woman who knows what she's talking about, and will have you tapping your toe before she even refers to her most intimate parts by a word that a woman of her age should not even understand! The next couple of tracks support everything before, but Marianne comes back with class in the form of 'Kissin' time' - Faithfull's conviction and Damon Albarn'raw talent fuse to provide a breath-taking conclusion. This album will astound fans and newcomers alike from the opening line of the first track to the last note of the last it is amazing that a woman with so much real talent just keeps oozing more.

A modern masterpiece
One of the things lacking in most electronica, is personality, and that is a quality Ms. Faithfull has in abundance. Even though there were several different musicians involved, the CD has a cohesiveness. This disc is VERY modern sounding, but I think this will stand up very nicely with past glories, Broken English, Strange Weather, and A Perfect Stranger. Highly reccomended.

Cool pop music for the Britpop generation
If you thought that Marianne Faithfull's glory days were well and truly behind her by 2002, then think again. The master reinventer released her 16th studio album 'Kissin Time', in which she co-wrote most of the songs, and by enlisting the help of modern talents such as Beck, Blur, Pulp, and Jarvis Cocker (all of whom are now icons of the '90s decade), she was able to breathe new life into her music, whilst still maintaining a constant retro vibe. True, her chart days in Britain might have come to an end, as far as back as the early 80s' in fact, but there was, and still is a lot of life in this grand dame, who was venturing into very unfamiliar territory here. Electric rock music was quite unlike anything she had ever done before, and although I doubt that 'Kissin Time' will ever be considered her finest hour (and if I'm honest, I personally don't think that it deserves to be), this is Marianne Faithfull we're talking about, and the woman just doesn't make bad records. This one is worthy of four stars for it's variety and 'funness' alone. It's probably the 'coolest', and easily assessable thing she's ever done as a whole. I practically hero worship Damon Albarn, and the idea of my favourite band Blur and favourite female singer working together on a track was a dream, the result, 'Kissin Time' is a very 'Damon' song, and although their two unique voices blending together is a perfect combination, it isn't the best track. 'Like Being Born', featuring Beck and Jon Brion, is just the type of beautiful, story-telling tune she would have sang in her folky 1960s heyday. Marianne's cool cover of 'Something Good', a hit for pop group Herman's Hermits in 1964, is a lovely slice of adult pop music, and is included here as a bonus track. Another highpoint is 'I'm On Fire', a wonderful, laid-back pop song with a 1980s vibe which was written by The Smashing Pumpkins' lead singer Billy Corrigan, who contributes on the backing vocals. 'Love & Money' is a very catchy tune, and is followed by the dramatic 'Nobody's Fault'. I have to also single out the very autobiographical 'Sliding Through Life On Charm' which she wrote with Joe Cocker, and is loaded with irony, and some wonderfully amusing obscenities, reminiscent of 'Why'd Ya Do It', a highlight on her landmark 1979 'comeback' album Broken English , and also has a reference to her later song 'Falling From Grace'. I really like it. Now, I should say that the opening track single 'Sex With Strangers' is edgy and 'hip', but with it's annoying beat and repetitive lyrics, it starts to grate after, oh, the first listening. This is one of the few songs of Marianne's, which she co-wrote with Beck, that I really dislike, but I do adore the track's wonderful music video, which starred model Kate Moss, and has priceless cameo from Blur's bassist, and her close friend Alex James dressed in drag at the beginning. Now that is well worth seeing! This record really did deserve to bring Marianne back to the thick of things in Britain, but, as she had been absent from the charts in her own country for so long, it bombed, though it did briefly make the top 40 in France and Belgium. As a relative newcomer to her work, I am amazed at the talent and sheer versatility of Marianne Faithfull. Since discovering her work aside from the famous '60s pop songs and 1979's Broken English album that I was already familiar with, I have never looked back. Her entire back catalogue is worth investigating, and 'Kissin' Time' is certainly no exception.

Surtout acheté par curiosité ayant apprécié before the poison et voulant écouter les productions de Beck, kissin time n'est pas le meilleur album de marianne Faithfull mais le titre dédié à Nico est vraiment agréable à écouter pour le reste cela se discute.

I've been a Marrianne Faithful fan for 20 years. I've loved her voice for so long; it's a true rock and roll female voice (remember Janis Joplin). This CD is so hauntingly beautiful, so compelling and additive I haven't been able to stop listening to this CD since I got it and that was two weeks ago. My favorite song is "Wherever I go." God this song should be a hit. It's so addictive. Billy Corgan of Smashing Pumpkins fame collaborated with her on this song. His influence is felt throughout the song. Then there's the Nico Song. As I listen to this song I couldn't help thinking about Nico the actress in the 1963 movie La Dolce Vita by Federico Fellini. She was so beautiful and innocent looking in that movie. Then Nico's life becomes tragic after the sixties. Faithfult tells Nico's story to music and lyrics that sends the listener into that woman's life with such a haunting, melancholy pang I get chills every time I hear this song. The CD ends with a rendition of Hermit's Hermits "I'm into something Good." Her voice on this song sounds like a prog rock synthesizer from the seventies. You'll be singing along to chorus by the end of this song. Buy this CD! You won't be wasting your money. "Because Nobody knows it's you whereever I go it's you. . ."

Marianne delivers yet again with Kissin Time, collaborating with some awesome artists sees the song list sparkle in the dark with funky beats from Beck, and some mighty rocking out with Jarvis Cocker on Sliding Through Life On Charm full of acidic truths and heroin chic is a breathless ride. All these songs are perfect Faithfull vessels for a raunchy and gutsy stab at what life can turn out like if your not too careful, and Marianne is in her element with the title track featuring Blur. And not forgetting Marianne's song contributions are as sharp as any other of these writers and players you'll hear on this wonderful cd/album. It's full speed ahead hear folks and then right at the end is a wonderful song from the 60's that reminds you that there is also beauty in Marianne's take on life still bubbling away, leaving you wanting more from the totally absorbing Marianne Faithfull.
