You Have Lots to Gain by Purchasing These
This review is about the Rodywell Microphone Preamp with 48V Phantom Power. Let's be real here - if you want to talk about S/N ratio and the best input designs, then look elsewhere. While quite adequate for most uses, this box will not win the AES award for best design. But it can turn an extra high-level console input into a microphone channel. I used the little box to allow our Allen & Heath desk local RCA jacks to accept two nat-sound/crowd mics at the balcony position at church. The noise is certainly low enough and the phantom power strong enough to work great with two condenser microphones. There are no pads, phase flippers or low cutters. Just pure decent amplification. The front panel red LED is a bit much so consider mounting away from line-of-sight. These problem solvers do not sound bad and are great for general purpose microphone inputs. Recommended!

Bought this to replace a Golden Age Pre-73 MKII
I have a Golden Age Pre-73 MKII that's been having issues, which is why I bought this. I don't have a big budget, so I took a chance. I'll cut right to the chase. I like it a lot. To my ears, it sounds fairly transparent and quiet overall. I'm using an SM57 and for my use case it works well. I needed separate input and output channels, which this has, and that allows me to send each mic to its own signal chain. Additionally, the unit has two 1/4" instrument inputs on the front, which lets you add two additional mics/instruments. While I don't have a use for that right now, I'd rather have it and not need it than need it and not have it. The metal case feels pretty rugged, and the knobs feel fairly sturdy, as well. For its price, I'd give it a thumbs up.

Does what it says!
I've got a Fractal Axe Fx - it's got a USB interface built in with plenty of ins/outs, but no built in mic preamps. So I searched hard for an affordable mic pre with a couple channels (for stereo micing) and lots of gain. That's apparently a surprisingly niche thing. I kept coming across this on Amazon as one of the few products that fit the bill at least on paper, but hesitated for awhile since the brand is pretty unknown. Anyways, finally pulled the trigger and I'm glad I did! Mic sounds great through my fractal now and my credit card is happy that I didn't have to go for anything more spendy than this

Too much noise.
It works....as in turns on! There is a lot of noise thru this box. Returned.

Ideal for budget users not seeking digital features.
Upon unboxing the Rodyweil Microphone Preamp - DI Box, the packaging didn't particularly stand out; it was straightforward and functional, leaning more towards budget-friendly than premium. The device itself is compact and robust with an all-steel construction, which is reassuring for longevity. This preamp features four channel inputs, with two XLR and two 1/4" inputs, accommodating up to four microphones or a combination of two microphones and two instruments. This versatility is quite useful for small setups. The +48V phantom power is a welcome feature, making it compatible with both condenser and dynamic microphones. The preamp's ability to boost signals up to +60 dB for microphones and 40 dB for instruments with clean gain suggests good headroom for various uses. The individual signal and clipping LEDs for each preamplifier are particularly user-friendly, aiding in volume control and preventing distortion. The claimed ultra-quiet sound production from the full balanced circuit design could make it a strong contender for those seeking a noise-free recording environment. In operation, the preamp meets the expectations for a device of its class, providing clear amplification without coloration of the sound. When compared to other preamps in its price range, this unit holds its own with its build quality and the inclusion of features like phantom power and individual signal monitoring. However, the product falls short in the absence of a digital interface, which limits its direct compatibility with modern, computer-based recording setups. A USB or Firewire connection would enhance its appeal. In terms of value for money, given its performance and build quality, the Rodyweil Microphone Preamp seems to offer good value, especially for those starting out or with smaller home studios. Top positives would include the sturdy build, the clean amplification, and the convenient individual channel monitoring. As for improvements, the addition of a digital interface would make it more versatile. Overall, I would recommend this product to amateur musicians, podcasters, and home studio enthusiasts who need a reliable, no-frills preamp. Its simplicity, combined with essential features, makes it ideal for users who do not require digital connectivity and work within a limited budget.

Very happy with this, may buy another one.
I bought this in order make use of one of the stereo input channels on our mixer for capturing the room with a pair of small diaphragm condenser mics. They need phantom power and gain, neither of which the stereo channel on the mixer is able to provide. The Rodyweil works exactly as I had hoped. The build quality is solid. The sound quality is good; the preamps give clean sound unless you crank the gain all the way up. I'm happy with this purchase.

Good way to get into XLR mics
This is a good way to break into XLR microphones and cables. This of this as a building block of your sound system: Mic, cables/patch cords, preamp/soundboard, sound recording device. It does cost more to set up but saves money in the long term. Buy good cables and they will last for years. Buy cheap cables to start out and grow. The beauty of XLR is you can swap cables for a short one to a longer one with no problem. They're heavy and the connection is solid. There's a reason this has been the standard for several decades. There's four inputs, two being XLR and two being quarter inch. Two outputs that are quarter inch. Quarter inch plugs have been around since the late 19th century. They're larger with more surface connection for a more solid connection. Again, you build what you need. Maybe you need a short patch cord or perhaps a longer one. Maybe a shorter cable this week and something else next week? These are designed to swap out cables. This type of connection or XLR is very unlikely to let you down. This preamp gives you phamtom power which is needed by some types of mics. The on/off switch is located in the back making it less likely to accidentally activate. When phamatom power is on, there is an LED light on the front, a very bright one. You will know when phantom power is on. You have two gain controls, one for each input. This is nicely designed with the controls on the side. Turning knobs are better than sliders and mounted on the side is better than on the top because of the potential of dust falling into the works causing disruptions in the sound when changes are being made. This is all analogue. It's not digital going in or coming out. That's just the nature of these preamps like this. Some people say that analogue gives a warmer tone to the sound than digital. Easy to set up and easy to operate.
