Acer AH101 Mixed Reality Headset with Wireless Controllers

Will come back later to do a review once Ive worn it for extended periods and tested a few WMR games/apps via Steam and Windows Store Added 20/11/2018 I have tried this headset with Euro Truck Simulator 2 via Steam and works superb but unfortunately it gave me motion sickness which is a shame and something I am hoping to over come via settings if possible so not a relfection on the headset as everything WMR I have thrown at it it has worked flawlessly and after some adjustments I managed to get a comfortable fit on the bridge of my nose without cutting off my breathing LOL. There is a screw adjustment at the back of the headset that when set correctly for your comfort means you can lift the visor without having to take the whole headset off. I have also used in conjunction with Plantronics wired headset which with both on my head was not any more noticeable than just having the headset on me head like. The only thing I will change in this setup is I will obtain a wireless headset as other wise it is yet another cable to get tangled up in ;-) Having read up on VR and WMR then looking at my options with Oculus Rift, Steam Vive or a WMR device I opted for the Asus WMR device as being of a good brand name with solid build and great reviews and the price difference between the Asus device over Vive, Rift for my needs for the difference in technology between them and price this was a no brainer and the fact it runs every Steam game I've thrown at it and if you need it there is a way to access Oculus Rift games as well, just google it.

Great bit of kit. Works instantly with windows 10. Unfortunately I have a big brow so the padding isn't totally sufficient for me and it can cause discomfort after a while. Not a design fault really as my friends have had no such problems. It's just my head. Picture quality is better than expected. You hardly notice SDE unless you're really looking for it. It can feel like tunnel vision on some games but for racing games it simply feels like you're wearing a helmet. Overall I'd recommend the purchase at £200.

Well. Having owned the Acer AH101 for a few weeks i can honestly say it holds its own in the world of virtual reality, the mixed reality aspect doesn't really mean anything as this is simply a VR headset with front mounted cameras which track the controller's provided. Experience wise it works really well, games like beat saber, accounting, even oculus and vive stuff work far better than i thought they would via the steam VR platform. Comfort wise the headset is super light to wear, there is very little light bleed around the edge and the optics inside are actually better imho than other VR headsets in this price range with very little screen door effect which is a small bonus over OLED like the Rift. However unlike the rift the controller's are tracked fully by the headset cameras, which means behind the headset actions like reloading, grabbing arrows or similar means the controller's get lost and often glitch out, a small price to pay for the sake of convenience as you'll only need a hdmi port and USB 3.0 to play, making it a great portable plug and play product. Only downside for me was build quality as mine has now died, the headset stopped giving output and well now it's on its way back to amazon, i may be unlucky here but other than that it really is an awesome product for those interested in VR but don't want to risk spending too much.

Didn't work consistently. Continually black screening. Tried everything. Bought a Hp in the end. Works perfectly. No glitches at all. Even with PC OC and all the other stuff plugged in to PC.

I've had this headset for about 3 weeks now, but its stopped working, I've only been using it now and then, at first it was amazing experience, there was a slight visual discomfort at the start but you get used to it, but anything after 3 hours it starts to put string on your eyes. The other night, while playing a VR game, it just shutdown, refused to power up at all, after a few days trying to get it to work, I returned this product, the Headset itself is good but I believe there is design flaws that need addressed, the narrow vision needs improvement, they need to make sure the product lasts longer than 3 weeks. I'm not going to get a Rift Headset since my cousin has one and I have no visual issues with that one.

VR may just be the greatest modern age experience ever! I thought 4K HDR was a game changer. Having tried this I’m convinced that all other A/V related innovation is irrelevant. I should point out that I bought this headset as a birthday present for my son. As an 11 year old his life has become defined by Fortnite. It’s been difficult to draw his attention to any other form of entertainment... until now! He’s done nothing but immersive himself in the vast number of VR games available via Steam and the Windows Store. He’s so impressed that he’s wanted to draw us all in to the experience! What sold it to me was a game in which you walk a plank off the side of a skyscraper and then step off. I was genuinely hesitant to take the step. My son pushed me off (by pushing me in the real world) and I screamed as I plunged to the ground below!!! I’m 42!! The hardware itself is great. Light, easy to set up (don’t forget to download and install the specific steam app for Windows Mixed Reality) and of good quality. I’m using a Asus gaming laptop with a 7th gen i5 and GTX 1060 (3Gb) and it works beautifully. I couldn’t recommend this hardware and the experience it enables enough. Absolutely astonishing.

Une pure merveille ! D'accord la technologie n'est pas encore parfaite mais on le sait tous et faite cette achat en connaissance de cause. C'est pixelisé, voir même flou à certains moment mais l'immersion est juste dingue ! Le rapport qualité/prix est vraiment excellent comparé à ses rivales haut de gamme ! Foncez si vous en avez l'opportunité.

Zuerst möchte ich allgemein etwas zu diesen Mixed Reality Headsets sagen. Diese wurden alle von Microsoft entwickelt - und die Pläne hierzu wurden dann an Acer, Lenovo, HP und Co heraus gegeben das diese immer die selbe Technik verbauen jedoch in verschiedenen Designs. Nun möchte ich etwas zu den anderen Bewertungen schreiben. Also ich verstehe es nicht das es Menschen gibt die diesem Headset nur 2 Sterne geben aufgrund von „Fehlenden Applikationen“. Fakt ist das diese Mixed Reality Headset kompatible sind zu allen Spielen wie es auch die Oculus oder HTC ist. Denn alle Spiele im Oculus, HTC und SteamVR store sind 100% Kompatible zu den Mixed Reality Headsets. Des Weiteren ist eine Abwertung der Bewertung sehr fragwürdig wenn man nicht vorab die Technischen Daten der Mixed Reality Headsets richtig liest in denen ganz genau drin steht welche HDMI Schnittstelle benötigt wird. Acer kann ja nichts dafür wenn Kunde X das Falsche HDMI Format kauft. Und ja es gibt viele HDMI Schnittstellen von 1.2 bis 4.0c. Und nun kommen wir zur Unglaublichen Behauptung in denn Bewertungen mit der Headline: „Achtung bitte lesen. Schade an Acer“. Erstens Schrieb dies ein Kunde der das Produkt nicht einmal via Amazon gekauft hat daher ist es fraglich ob er es überhaupt erworben hat. Des weiteren konnte ich auf Rückfrage mit Acer 100% ausschließen das diese Kabel nur mit einem Klebeband befestigt wird. Und selbst wenn dieser Kunde Probleme gehabt haben sollte so gibt es auf dieses Acer Mixed Reality Headset ganze 2 Jahre volle Garantie. Und diese Mixed Reality Headsets gibt es gerade mal 10 Monate auf dem Markt. Ergo gibt es keine Veranlassung dies dazu zunehmen Negativ zu bewerten. Und 2 Jahre Garantie in der Heutigen Zeit ist TOP da die meisten Hersteller bei Hardware so gut wie nur noch 1 Jahr Garantie geben. So das war erst einmal meine Bewertung zu diesen nicht Wirkich Aussagekräftigen Bewertungen. Kommen wir nun dazu was ich von diesem Acer Mixed Reality Headset halte. Wenn man sich rein die Technischen Daten anschaut dann ist die Auflösung pro Auge schon einmal viel besser also 2x so gut wie bei der HTC bzw. Oculus Brille. Okay der Blickwinkel hat 5 Grad weniger. Aber dies merkt man später im Spiel nicht wirklich. Die Acer ist auch noch nutzbar mit einer Brille - was mir persönlich gut gefallen hat. Die Qualität des Cases also Gehäuses ist sehr gut. Die Controller sind bei der HTC etwas besser aber das kann man von HTC dann auch erwarten da diese gut 400 Euro mehr kosten. Postiv: - Beste Auflösung pro Auge als Oculus und HTC - Man sieht in-Game kein Raster wie bei der Oculus bzw. HTC - Sehr leicht - Man spart Hardware Power da die Berechnung in der Brille direkt passiert - Man muss keine Sensoren an die Wand befestigen - Aufbau geht sehr schnell ca. 2min (Anschließen - auf Windows Message warten - fertig) - Sehr gut auch für Anfänger mit wenig technischen Wissen geeignet - Preis Leistungsverhältnis ist sehr gut Negativ: - Oculus und HTC bieten 5-10Grad mehr Sichtfeld an - Controller sind nicht so gut wie bei Oculus und HTC - Es wird kein BT 4.0 Adapter mitgeliefert. Eins würde ich gerne zum Abschluss noch schreiben. Die Mixed Reality Headsets haben einen sehr sehr großen Vorteil und zwar muss man keine Sensoren Aufbauen. Bei der Oculus und HTC müssen erst Sensoren im Raum verbaut werden. Die dann am PC angeschlossen werden. Auf dem PC läuft dann eine extra software die alle Daten berechnet was zusätzlich Hardware Leistung benötigt. Daher benötigen die Oculus und HTC VR Headsets mehr PC Leistung. Dies fällt bei den Mixed Reality Headset 100% weg da die Berechnungen direkt in der Brille ablaufen. Und JA Mixed Reality Headsets sind 100% VR Headsets. Mixed Reality wurde nur zwecks neuen Marketing genommen.

De todas las gafas WMR escogí estas porque normalmente son las mas baratas con las mismas prestaciones que las demás gafas del mismo precio original. Puedes jugar tanto a los juegos de la Windows Store como a los juegos de SteamVR. En cuanto a la calidad de imagen, no son las mejores que puedes tener, pero si son las mejores calidad / precio. Si te quedas fijo mirando se pueden llegar a apreciar los pixeles, pero en verdad no importa tanto porque vas a estar casi todo el rato en constante movimiento y de esa forma no lo vas a apreciar. Sobre el espacio necesario con tener un espacio libre de 1.5x2 metros es suficiente. Sobre los mareos, en verdad los mareos no dependen de las gafas, yo tengo juegos con los que me puedo pasar horas jugando y otros juegos en los que con 30min ya necesito descansar. Vais a necesitar si o si un receptor Bluetooth para los mandos inalambricos puesto que no vienen con este producto. Cualquiera que sea Bluetooth 4.0 o superior os vale, yo compre uno barato por 6€ o así. Es aconsejable comprar un cargador y pilas recargables dado que los mandos inalambricos tiran de 2 pilas AA cada uno y consumen bastante, también depende de las horas que juegues. La única pega que le he visto es que no se lleva bien con los USB 3.1 de mi placa base MSI que en teoría son mejores puesto que son "VR Ready", pero bueno, lo pones en un USB 3.0 normal y listo, por eso le pongo 5 estrellas porque no se si es problema de las gafas o de mi placa base.

Tra i visori di Windows Mixed reality questo è un prodotto validissimo, facile da installare e da utilizzare, si può usare tranquillamente anche con steam VR scaricando da steam stesso i vari software. Altamente consigliato.

Questa recensione non vuole essere professionale, di seguito lascio le mie opinioni dopo aver provato la maggior parte dei visori vr in commercio. Potrei essere un po' troppo cattivo quindi leggete fino in fondo per capire bene cosa ne penso. - Non pensate di usarlo senza un pc da gaming di fascia alta: [Controllate se il vostro pc è compatibile dal software sullo store Microsoft] A differenza di quelli che dicono molti non potete usarlo con portatili normali o pc da poco. Certo potete avviarlo ma so che volete usarlo per giocarci e fidatevi non va. Le specifiche consigliate si possono trovare sul sito microsoft, il mio pc principale monta un i7 8th Gen e una Gtx 1080ti quindi non ho nessun problema. Testato su un vecchio pc i5 4th Gen e Gtx 970 aveva dei problemi con molti giochi, inoltre il mirroring funziona solo se il pc lo permette. Per giocare al meglio consiglio un i5 recente e almeno una Gtx 1060, se potete esagerare fatelo. Avrete anche bisogno di un adattatore bluetooth 4.0 per i motion controller, senza non potrete usarli. Costano davvero poco e potete acquistarli ovunque. - Non è molto solido e il display non è dei migliori: La costruzione in se non è ottima, se trattato male si potrebbe rompere. La regolazione è piuttosto limitata e l'apertura della parte anteriore è un aspetto negativo, il visore non preme bene sulla faccia quindi potrebbe rovinare l'esperienza. Le lenti hanno un fov basso rispetto ad altri visori ma basta abituarsi. Il display non è oled. Il cavo è invece ottimo, molto resistente e lungo, solo due connettori. - I controller sono nella media: I motion controller sono plasticosi e ingombranti, fra tutti quelli che ho provato sono i peggiori. L'unico aspetto positivo è che hanno più tasti e in futuro potrebbe essere davvero comoda come cosa. Per la carica utilizzano 2 pile Stilo AA per controller, gli danno anche peso quindi non è male. Assicuratevi di usare batterie ricaricabili ad alta capienza oppure vi ritroverete a cambiarle ogni poche ore. - Il tracking è un idea geniale sfruttata male: Il sistema di tracking è inside out, quindi utilizza delle camere all'interno del visore per tracciare i movimenti e le mani. E' una fantastica alternativa all'utilizzo delle camere esterne degli altri visori ma presenta numerosi problemi. Il primo è che non può tracciare dietro la schiena quindi la posizione dei controller viene persa con le mani fuori dall'angolo di visione (il software immagina la posizione e aspetta di vedere nuovamente le mani). Il secondo "problema" è invece grave, le camere hanno bisogno di una visione chiara per "scannerizzare" la stanza quindi una stanza non illuminata non può essere usata. Spesso mi sono ritrovato a cercare delle luci per aiutarlo nel tracking, invece in altre stanze basta la luce diurna per un tracciamento perfetto; dipende molto dalla posizione della casa. - Il software (+guida configurazione / Troubleshooting): La mixed reality non è nata per il gaming, la tecnologia è proprietaria microsoft quindi anche il software è loro. Una volta connesso il visore si avvierà automaticamente il "Portale della Realtà Mista" che gestirà la configurazione, potreste ricevere alcuni codici errori durante l'installazione, spesso significano che non avete l'ultima versione di Windows 10 che è altamente consigliata. Il software deve sempre rimanere aperto per farlo funzionare. SteamVR si installa automaticamente se riconosce il visore, dovete anche scaricare "Mixed Reality software per SteamVR" oppure non funzionerà. Consiglio anche OpenVR per le impostazioni avanzate su Steam. Se avete problemi con i controller andate nella home windows e riavviateli, se non sono riconosciuti significa che l'adattatore bluetooth è una versione troppo vecchia. Se vedete male nel visore pulitelo, controllate che lo state indossando giustamente, se è estremamente caldo potrebbe appannarsi. Se non lo riconosce cambiate porta hdmi/usb, se persiste controllate lo stato da gestione dispositivi e reinstallate i driver manualmente. Se avete problemi con il software potete semplicemente disinstallarlo e reinstallarlo manualmente dal sito microsoft, spesso è la soluzione più rapida. CONCLUSIONI: Nonostante tutti i problemi che ho elencato rimane un ottimo prodotto, il prezzo è giusto. Fino ad ora l'ho usato per circa 40 ore, purtroppo il vr è una tecnologia che sta ancora nascendo ma è giusto che contribuiate allo sviluppo. Personalmente sono soddisfatto dell'acquisto, infatti ho messo 4 stelle. La portabilità è un grandissimo punto a favore di cui non ho parlato, preferisco di gran lunga la mixed reality a vive e oculus. Se lo volete comprare per un utilizzo standard vi conviene aspettare, se invece siete interessati alla parte gaming acquistatelo anche ora. E poi se questo non vi è bastato beh sappiate che Beat Saber è bello come sembra, anzi è un capolavoro che non riesco a smettere di giocare. Spero di essere stato utile <3
