Does anyone have a clear answer?** A: I don’t think so. If you want to do that you will need to get special filters. The Berkey and Berkefeld models do these - ceramic, charcoal and there is one that deals with fluoride. **Q: Does this filter remove lead (from lead pipes) and if so to what degree?** A: It removes all impurities and the water tastes clear and fresh as if from a mountain stream. The filters last for ages, because each one purifies 200 gallons of water. We have had other filters but the water always had a bitter taste to it after filtration, and the filters did not last very long. I should imagine though that if you have lead pipes, then the filter will have to work harder to purify. And maybe not last as long. If you are still unsure the company that makes this wonderful product will be happy tp answer your questions. **Q: Please can you confirm if your cartridges can be recycled and how to do this?** A: Not sure, place mine in our recycling bin.
