Phonics with the Alphablocks: Starting Phonics for children age 3-5 (Pack of 3 reading books, eBook CD-Rom and Parent Guide

My son absolutely loves these DVDs so I'm very very pleased with these. Fast delivery, packaged well & one of the best surprises for my little boy.

Anyone that has been through the phonics programme before will know that they start with what seems like a random selection of letters "s,a,t,p....." These are there to provide children with a solid enough grounding that they can start to make and sound out short words by only learning a small amount of letters to start with. This pack of 3 books really is fun for smaller children to look at and talk about the pictures and older children age 4/5 in primary 1 to use alongside their school or home education phonics reading programme. It covers the first letters and blending sounds. Lovely cd rom as well. Having fun while learning, it's the best way to learn.

Lovely, bright and colourful books, presentation folder is nice keeps books together, dvd comes with books haven't tried dvs yet but looking forward to it :)

My daughter loves the alphblocks on the TV, in magazines and on the cbeebies web site but she really has not taken to these at all she got them ages 3 1/2 for christmas and they where soon forgotten might try again with them now she is 4. As a parent I am disappointed. The usbourne press phonics books from the library where more interesting to her :(

I bought this pack for my 3 year old because he is obsessed with Alphablocks. He loves the three very thin books, however the value for money here is pretty poor. The three ebooks on the CD rom are the same as the books in the pack and the episode is much worse quality than the cbeebies website where you can play the Alphablocks game for free or watch episodes on the iplayer.

I rarely write reviews on Amazon, but felt moved to because I am genuinely disappointed with this purchase. I really thought this would be more of a starter kit providing an overall introduction to the alphabet and phonic sounds ie going over all the letters and sounds. Instead all it contains is 3 of the normal books (all sold individually on amazon as stage 2 books) and a CD-ROM which does little more than read the books back to you. Each book only mentions a few of the letters and ones totally at random - I personally would expect a starter kit to at least have the betters A and B in it!! I personally think there are better ways of introducing your little one to phonics.
