Foghat took this basic structure and added a rowdy four-bar boogie feel to it, cranked the amps to 11, and unleashed a series of LPs that would achieve gold or platinum status. Best of Foghat captures the band's finer moments. "Slow Ride" with its funky-boogie bass line and guitar harmony leads was every air-guitarist's dream come true, and the long breakdown at the song's mid-point that finally erupted into scorching fret work epitomized the "big rock ending" of the 1970s. "Fool for the City" was another rush of rock and roll adrenaline, with its repeated chorus and steady straight four/four beat. I played it between listening to other Foghat albums & other than the traditional shortening of some of the songs you often see on " Greatest Hits" & " Best Of's" this " Foghats: Greatest Hits" sounds AWESOME!!!! It sounds every bit like Foghat Even vetted it against some old Vinyl's!!! The only song that doesn't sound like Foghat is " Third Time Lucky" which always sounded like something " Dr. Hook " would do to me " L.O.L."!!!! But seriously I have a real love hate relationship with " Greatest Hits" & " Best of's" because they always edit songs to save time & always seem to be missing a fan favorite or even a commercial success! All of that considered I do love how a well made " Greatest Hits" or " Best Of's" can show case a really good band that you want in your Rock & Roll library without having to buy all of that bands album's. To be perfectly honest a band as prolific & as good as Foghat should at the very least be sporting a double disc " Greatest Hits" because its a hard enough task to try and please every Foghat fan with two disc's worth of songs ...but for only having a single disc this is the best " Foghats Greatest Hits" out there right now. Even if " Slow Ride" & " Stone Blue" are cut in half it is still a worthy addition to anyone's Rock & Roll library...if not a must have!!!!
