Coleman Evanston Screened Tent

So I finally got to put the tent to use this weekend. Just wanted to share that it was everything we needed it to be. Having grown up with standard dome tents, I had it out of the box and up, by myself, in about 10-15 minutes. Would be about 5-10 minutes now that I've done it. The size turned out to be perfect, not too huge, but definitely big enough for a queen, and two child sized airbeds. Could definitely fit two queens. The screen room was everything I hoped it would be. It adds a ton of flexibility to the tent. Some people had complained that it was a bit small, but they were mostly commenting on the Evanston 6, which is smaller in general. Because the 8 is bigger all around, the screen room is just about perfect. It makes for a great place to throw gear without having to constantly go in-out of the sleeping area. For example, you can stage gear just by throwing it into the screen room. Then when you have your shoes off, you can move gear back and forth to the clean areas. When we woke up this morning the world was wet with morning condensation, but the inside of the tent was dry. It has very good ventilation, and lots of large windows to control that aspect. However, those that have mentioned that this is a warm weather tent are correct. The increased ventilation definitely means that you won't be trapping as much warmth during the night. So take that into account when planning bags, blankets, etc. I was nervous to go with Coleman, because frankly their tent reviews in the last few years have been slipping, especially on their other styles. But I chose this one because the reviews were much better, and because I wanted to stick with a standard dome configuration. We had a great time, and the tent performed well in every aspect. The floor is well crafted and of good material. The seams and zips were all well placed and well done. No complaints. Unless one of our kids damages the tent, there is no reason we shouldn't get quite a few good seasons from it.

Excelente casa, quede muy a gusto con ella y en verdad esta bastante amplia, los materiales son bastantes resistentes y por el precio que vale no hay que pensarlo dos veces si se necesita una casa para camping. En cuanto al envío fue excelente llego de un día para el otro y en excelentes condiciones. - La zona de la casa que tiene malla esta bastante grande como para poner cosas que siempre necesites a la mano o por si llevas muchas cosas es excelente. - Lo unico que hay que cambiarle a la casa son los ganchos para anclar la casa y es que son un poco delgados y se doblan con facilidad al momento de pegarles para sumirlos en el terreno (siempre que compro una casa bienen con ese detalle asi que no es problema de esta casa, ganchos muy delgados). En fin estoy muy contento con esta compra y con mi casa!!!

Ok so I've had this tent up in my yard for awhile now to get familiar with it and have slept in it a couple of times so I feel like I can leave a pretty honest review. Everyone who said the screened in porch floods when it rains was not kidding! It really does. However, it's nothing a broom and an orange shammy can't fix. Just open up the screened doors and sweep out most of the water just one or two orange shammies can wipe up the rest. So I strongly recommend tarping it if there's even a chance of rain, the tarp will also provide more shade. I don't have many trees in my yard but I used a camping tarp as a rainfly extension over the porch area and it helped. It wasn't perfect but it did help. I wouldn't recommend using the porch as an extra sleeping area but to be fair that's not what it's for. I like the feature to help make sure sand and dirt won't be tracked in to the sleeping area. All that being said I am impressed how dry the *sleeping area* stays when it rains! Definitely surpassed my expectations even with the little Coleman rainfly on by itself. I also really love all the mesh so you can open it up even during a Florida summer and get a lot of ventilation going. I would still recommend buying some kind of camping fan though if you plan on doing warm weather camping. I'm a complete beginner with tent camping and this was my first tent trying to put up by myself. It took me a full day to figure out. I wish the directions were better. I got more clarity from YouTube. The main thing you need to know is that the poles are color co ordinated. Grey poles go in the grey sleeve, black poles in the black sleeve. There was a pole for the rain fly I could not figure out so I just leave it off. I also had a hard time getting the poles anchored into the clips so I just stick them into the ground and it stays stable. Actually when my husband got them anchored properly a strong wind and rain storm still knocked the tent over. (I'm in Florida having unexpected tropical storms is normal here) So I gave it 4 stars to weather proofing for that. I feel like the tent is quirky but I've gotten to know the quirks. It's my first tent so I don't know if all tents are like that. I got this on sale so I think it might have been an older model because there's no e-port which I was hoping to have but it's not a deal breaker for me. I feel a got a great value. It's a roomy tent for me and my family, it's well ventilated, the sleeping area stays dry, and the screen porch is a nice luxury feature. If this wasn't on sale I wouldn't have been able to get a tent this nice for the amount of money I paid for it. If you're on the fence about it and you like the features I'd say get it just make sure you buy a tarp big enough to go over it for extra weather protection.

Ordered it on Monday for a trip on Thursday after noticing that my current tent at the time was beginning to mildew because it wasn't as dry as I thought it was when I last packed it. Got it on Wednesday. I and my 10 year old step son set it up in about 10 minutes, including staking out and rain fly. We experienced some of the hardest rain I have ever experienced while in a tent. We got something like 2 1/2 inches in a few hours the second night of our trip and the wind really kicked up. It was kind of like a mini-hurricane an that second night. Completely dry the entire three day and night trip. The one area that will get wet, especially if wind is blowing while it is raining is the screened room on the front of the the tent. However, a small non-sharp stick or pole can easily slide under the flooring and you can lift it which will make most of any collected water run right out. The rain fly doesn't reach to the bottom of the walls but the pole for the rain fly keeps it sticking out far enough that rain would almost have to be blowing vertically to enter the tent. We left both windows open the entire time the tent was set up and no rain got in because of the design of the rain fly. Definitely not a 4 season tent in colder climates because the back wall of the tent is, indeed, mesh from about half way up the back wall to the top. Excellent air flow for warmer times of the year but it would be hard to stay warm in if the temps were cooler outside. Having the screen room on the front also makes a second barrier to insects. Open the screen room, step in, close the screen room, then open the main door into the tent. Doing this should help keep bugs out very well. Also, we left the actual door to the tent open giving us even more airflow down lower where we were sleeping, instead of waiting for a breeze to waft through the windows about 2 feet above our heads. All in all I am very satisfied with my first trip in this tent. Time will tell how well this tent will stand up to use, but bear in mind it is overall a fairly cheap tent that is not intended for long term use or serious abuse. For $150.00, I think it last an adequate amount of time and take an adequate amount of abuse to make me feel like I got my money's worth. We fit a queen sized air mattress and a twin sized air mattress in this tent with ample walking space between them.
