Illustration School: Let's Draw! (Includes Book and Sketch Pad): A Kit with Guided Book and Sketch Pad for Drawing Happy People, Cute Animals, and Plants and Small Creatures Review: High-Quality, Whimsical Illustration Advice - As has been noted, the packaging is gorgeous. I was surprised at the quality of the book and the accompanying sketch pad. They come in a binder that has an elastic band to keep everything together. The book opens horizontally and the sketch pad vertically so you can leave them in the binder and open both at the same time or take them out (I opted to do the latter but I store them in the binder). I added a photo that shows both books in the binder with the binder open. The tone of the book is whimsical and, at times maybe goes a little over the top for some readers. I smiled to myself when the author suggested that I share my drawings with my friends and ask them questions like "Don't you think this is cute?" and "This is really funny looking, isn't it?". I can't imagine those words escaping my mouth or being written in a text message to any of my friends but your results may vary. I like the pacing of the book. Sometimes she will be pretty technical and serious and then waffle back to exercises that are, as far as I can tell, totally silly. A good example is a page with the title "To render a pose, start with the skeleton" that tries to get you thinking about animals' skeletal structure when drawing them and then, a few pages later, you are matching cartoon footprints to animals. I don't own any of her other books so the fact that this overlaps with them doesn't bother me (but is good to know!). If you are looking for something to teach you some fun new illustration skills and you don't own any of her previous books I highly recommend this set. Review: Very nice set - The guide book includes portions of the 3 drawing books: Happy People, Cute Animals, and Plants and Small Creatures. Though it doesn't contain all the examples that the 3 separate books give, it's still a very nice assortment of many of them. Altogether it's a wonderful gift for children, and adults who would love to doodle and draw simple pictures..

No more stick figures
My 4 year old received the let's draw happy people as a gift. She loved that book. This was the second drawing she made using the book's guidelines. The step by step was so simple, even MY drawing came out cute. This is a compilation of all the other books available. I gifted this to a 4, 6, and 8 year old. They all enjoyed it. Has a super cute drawing pad with little promps and ideas. Will move your little ones away from stick figures

Nice starter pack for drawing. Makes a nice gift.
A nice present for a child or teen that wants to try their hand in sketching. The format is convenient for carrying around and it already includes a nice sketch pad, so all you need is a pencil (and eraser and sharpener!).

Love This!
All I can say is that I just love this illustration book! It's so well made and the illustrations are adorable, with so many to choose from. I love practicing my sketching using the step by step illustrations. I also use this book to teach my young grand sons how to draw. I hope to buy more books from this amazing artist.

Great gift for little ones and adults!
I was trying to get my 5 year old to draw more and this book inspires him! I love the easy progressions and the fact that it comes with a note book to practice. It's a lovely set that even had me drawing along with him.

Yes, let's draw!
I love the simplicity and accessibility of Sachiko Umoto's drawings. This set is something you want to sit down with at the end of a crazy day and loose yourself in doing something fun and creative. Rediscover the elementary school child in you. Slow down to see more. Slow down and draw more.

This is such a great gift. I love how it's put together
This is such a great gift. I love how it's put together. It comes with the drawing instruction plus a little sketch book. I purchased this for my 10 year old niece and it was so great when I got it that I thought about getting another one for my sister as a gift.
