I saw these plates used in a YouTube video and figured I would give them a try. While they are quite thin, as another reviewer noted, they do work exceptionally well. I recently became obsessed with modifying a super cheap hatchet from Harbor Freight as they are well known as being dirt cheap and well made, albeit needing a few cosmetic and functional upgrades. My primary modification was to add a much narrower bevel to the cutting edge to make it more of a cutter and less of a splitter. This was easily achieved with some files and a rotary tool, however, re-sharpening the edge proved challenging with the equipment I had. That's where these plates came it. They allowed me to shave a consistent 30-ish degree edge to both sides of the hatchet through about 10-15 passes per side per grit plate. It was made easier by the fact I was able to use both hands to perform the work. Every other product I had used up to this point, I was only able to have one hand on the actual knife itself. After the careful edge work, I finished the edge with a leather strop and HOLY COW, the thing is now razor sharp. I could probably shave with it if I had to. These plates are great and I think I will get a lot of use out of them as they seem to manufactured quite well despite being on the thin side. The grip texture on the backside is a nice feature. Review: I've used these quite a bit to rescue dull damaged blades. They work really well and give me a very nice edge. Very durable, as I've sharpened 20 knives and 5 pairs of scissors. Using the various grits to deburr and hone the cutting edges is easy to do. Just personal experience. If you are new to sharpening don't get extremely caught up in the angle of the edge.
