Rome classic square pie iron - 4.25in x 4.25in head- 28in L - The ionic Pie Iron loved by campers since 1964. The generous cooking cavity makes terrific sandwiches and deserts without wasting bread. Cast iron construction holds up to the rigors of the campfire.Tips for Preventing RustNever soak the pan: Since cast iron is so vulnerable to rust, it’s best to limit your pan’s exposure to water as much as possible.Don’t let the pan air dry: Wipe off any excess water with a towel immediately after rinsing. To get your skillet bone dry, pop it on the burner to remove extra moistureLightly oil after use: Once dried, rub your skillet with a thin layer of vegetable oil before storingSeasoning: Drop a tablespoon of vegetable oil on the pan/utensil and spread it around with your fingers or a paper towel. (Take care not to burn yourself on a warm skillet!). Oil the outside and the handle, too. Next, take a folded napkin and wipe off the excess oil. You’ll want the skillet to be lightly greased. Set your oven to 350 degrees and put some aluminum foil on the bottom rack. Then pop the skillet in, upside down, on the upper rack for about 1 hour. Turn the oven off and leave the pan inside until it’s cool. The oil will bake into the pores of the pan, providing a non-stick finish

Review: This is a great addition to the camping kitchen - Love this pie iron. Initially when I received it I thought it looked too small for a standard size slice of bread, however allowing for the indentation of the irons it became apparent that the size is more than adequate. It took a while to season per the instructions - cast iron retains a lot of heat an took time to cool before applications of shortening but once done I had great fun experimenting with toasted treats and didn't have problems with sticking. I tried egg and bacon toasted sandwiches, toasted cheese filled tortilla wrap, and finally apple pastries using store bough ready-rolled chilled croissant dough and tinned apples - all were super easy and were a winner with the family. With a hot fire from a small firebox stove I was turning the pastries and sandwiches around in about 5 minutes each. There are lots of recipe ideas on youtube. Well pleased with this pie iron. It's going to be a great addition to our camping kitchen and depending on how we get on in the field I may purchase a second one.

**Q: Where is this pie iron manufactured?**
A: Hi WendyThey cast in a small sand mold foundry in China and assemble and package in Peoria, IL.  They've been in business since 1964 and I've been very happy with their product.  :)  I hope this helps, Kenda

**Q: My family used to own a round pie maker and what they really liked is that it would burn off the edges. Does this do that as well or no?**
A: The square irons are large enough that the normal loaf bread stays inside the edges.  We tried some Texas toast which stuck out but every batch delicious!

**Q: How do you season the iron to prevent from rusting?**
A: I'm not really sure but I would treat it like a cast iron pan.  Also to let you know the size of the iron is Very small. You would not be able to fit a piece of bread in it!  I was Very disappointed !

Love this pie iron.
