wolfcraft Universal Depth Stop Set, 3 Pcs. I 2755000 I For restricted-depth drilling

Some of the cheaper depth stops use two small grub screws to secure the stop. and these are fiddly to set up, and can slip. The wolfcraft uses a hex head screw on a fixed nut, and expands or contracts the aperture which is on a hinge. So it grips the drill bit securely and easily. It does not slip. I had bought a set of the cheaper two grub screw type depth stops, but I never use them now. The set I bought had 3 sizes. 6, 8, and 10 mm, which fits my needs for dowel use. Bit expensive, but I think they are worth it.

Proper depth stops which hold very tightly onto a drill bit which makes accuracy in workmanship. They are also made out of high quality metal which assures durability. I highly recommend

I really like these, they're solid, work well and don't move up like masking tape can. They have 2 main flaws: 1. They don't losen enough to fit over a brick (masonry) drill bit without having to take the entire bolt off the thread, open the stopper and close it again. 2. They mark the surface of what you're drilling when you get close to it. The rotating of the stop causes it to strip and rub off paint if you touch the wall with it. Even if I stop a few mm short sometimes got caught out as the depth stop is never on at exactly 90 drgrees (or I don't drill at 90 degrees to the wall) causing it to wobble and catch against the wall when it's at its closest. I'd probably use these where the surrounding 2cm is going to be covered up or re painted at some point (or you don't care if there are marks).

With lots of other depth stops there is a single grub screw trying to grip a round drill bit. What happens with that is that it slips while you're drilling and you end up missing the stop. Very frustrating, especially if it's the difference between a good job and ruining a perfectly good bit of wood. With these depth stops there is a hinge on one side and a nut and bolt on the other, forming a much tighter grip around the drill bit, over a greater surface area. The result is this depth stop doesn't budge. Yes it costs significantly more than most others on ebay, but it is very good and I'd highly recommend it.

I don’t write reviews usually but I just wanted to say that these are brilliant! I was using depth stops that have a pin which you screw into the drill bit - these often come loose and end up falling off. This problem is no longer with these Wolfcraft stops. No movement, solidly held in position onto the drill bit. My main use for depth stops is for drilling holes for wood dowels and these make this job so much easier! If your considering buying them then I can’t recommend them enough!

They work but they will mark whatever you are drilling into if you don't stop pushing on the drill before the stop meets the material you are drilling into. You could solve this by using masking tape on the drilled material but that creates its own issues... So I've gone back to using tape on the drill bit to set depth... Also they could do with offering a stop another size down too.

Always a pity when a great product is sunk by a incomplete, inaccurate description on Amazon. I see someone commented on this in a question way back in 2016 but the seller has not been arsed to correct the entry - do they actually care about selling stuff? This is NOT three 10mm stops, but much more usefully a set of three different sized stops, the first for 6mm or 1/4", the second for 8mm or 5/16" and the third for 10mm or 3/8" drill. I bought on risk, somewhat reassured by the picture. These sizes corresponds to the Wolfcraft Dowel Master and commonly used woodwork jointing dowels. These are infinitely better than the ring and grub-screw alternatives which in my experience will only work adequately on the shank part of the drill. These are much better quality and clamp to the drill anywhere along the length.

The depth stops clamp round the drill, so they can be attached to the drill in any position with almost no risk of damaging any cutting edge on the drill. The fit of the 6mm /1/4" depth stop to a 1/4" drill is marginal, since the locking screw has to be undone almost completely to allow the depth stop to be fitted to the drill. However, the supplied screw is just long enough rather than just too short, so the depth stop still does its job. Other than this, the depth stops fit very well on to the correct size of metric or imperial drills.
