Could thia be used as a washing machine p trap?

Hi, I don't think It's ideal as the fitting is intended to screw onto the metal screw part under a Basin waste water outlet (Just below the plug hole)

Why does it not fit on to a standard basin waste?

Hi Adam, I am not a professional plumber but 2 years ago I found myself asking the same question after I bought the fourth "universal" waste to fit a new sink. I think the root of the problem is that the 1-1/4" BSTP is a UK measurement as in "British Standard Taper Pipe" and is not compatible with any metric based fittings, which many fittings sold in the UK appear to be now. If you look up the BSTP sizes you will see that they refer to the internal measurement of a pipe and not what I expected. The 1-1/4" vs the 1-1/2" are the sink vs bath fittings in a UK sized fitting. I was lucky in that my forth one fitted but if I were going to do this again I would buy a sink fitting with the outlet tube as a pair. It would have been cheaper. Rob

Can this be used on a free standing bath?

Don't see why not but this 1 1/4" one is usually the size for a basin not a bath. Baths usually use 1 1/2" bstp which we do sell.
