Great for accurate colour swatch
I’ve been using this colour sensor for a few weeks now, and it’s honestly impressive how accurate and quick it is. I used it to match a wall colour that was painted years ago, and it found the closest brand match instantly — something I couldn’t do by eye or even with paint chips. The fact that it supports over 200,000 brand-name paints and gives digital values like RGB, HEX, CMYK, and more is a huge plus for both decorating and digital design projects. The design is compact, durable, and feels premium — no surprise it’s won design awards like the Red Dot. I also appreciate that it’s USB-C rechargeable and works well with Bluetooth. The app interface is straightforward, and the Nix Toolkit makes it easy to navigate between paint libraries and digital colour values. That said, the calibration tile might be needed if you're seeing colour drift, and results can vary a bit depending on your phone’s screen brightness or settings. Also, it’s best for full wall or surface scans — not for tiny touch-ups, as colour matching in isolated areas isn’t always perfect. Pros: Lightning-fast and very accurate colour matching Supports major global paint brands (Behr, Sherwin-Williams, etc.) Gives instant digital colour codes (RGB, HEX, etc.) Great design – portable, rechargeable, and durable Professional-level results with minimal effort Cons: Paint libraries may vary by country or region Not ideal for touch-up jobs on small patches Paid subscription required for Pantone, RAL, and NCS databases Calibration tile may be needed if accuracy drifts over time All in all, this is a game-changer for designers, decorators, or anyone wanting perfect colour matching. It’s faster and more precise than any method I’ve tried before — highly recommended if you’re serious about colour accuracy.

Pleased with my purchase.
Works well from the few times I have used it. Seems to be accurate.

Really pleased!
Not only is this a fantastic device which really made choosing colours for our walls a lot easier, the customer service is second to none going above and beyond. As with most rechargeable batteries, ensure the Nix Mini 3 is charged every month or so.

Colours are accurate, but the app is clunky
I have used the Nix 3 for a year now in the film industry as a set designer. I use it a handful of times a month, sometimes more. There is a lot to say, so I'll summarise it into a bullet point list: 1. The app is clunky to use for the following reasons: A) You have to sign up (this shouldn't really be necessary, they just make you do it so they can harvest your data and sell you more stuff). You're also frequently logged out automatically which is just annoying. B) Not all colours are available in the app automatically. RAL/ Pantone for example require an additional subscription purchase ($50/year) no thanks. C) The app often fails to recognise my nix. I have to forget the device and add it fresh. Seems to happen every few weeks. D) The monochromatic interface is difficult to navigate. Some colourful icons would make it more intuitive. E) There's no way to get a digital CMYK value aas well as a paint value with one scan. You have to scan twice. Not a big deal, but is definitely something that would improve user experience. F) Once a swatch is saved, you can't convert it to another paint library. For example, if I scan a wall colour and match it to a Dulux colour, and then save it, I cannot then convert it to a Johnstone's colour. This would require another scan. In addition to this, it would be better if you could match to multiple libraries simultaneously with one scan and save multiple best matches rather than having to scan and save a seperate swatch for each library. G) The app allows you to save, categorise and add notes to swatches but it's a little overcomplicated. For example, the paint colour archives are referred to as "Colour Libraries" in the main menu, but when you "Save" a scanned colour, it puts it in the "Favourite colours" section. Inside here is your "Favourite libraries" which has nothing to do with paint libraries. When saving, it also forces you to pick a "library" and "collection" - no leaving it blank. Sound confusing? That's because it is! Some more user testing, refinement and tweaking of language would make this easier for the average user to utilise. These would all be forgiveable alone, but all together make it a really unpleasant, clunky digital experience. 2. The plastic box it comes in is brittle and breaks easily. There's no closing mechanism so the lid just sits ontop and rattles around uselessly until it falls off. Why not provide a proper box? 3. The calibration card is easy to lose (especially when the box is so useless!) 4. The Nix does not come with any sort of protective cap for the sensor lens which is exposed and can easily trap dirt or get scratched (again, especially when the box is so useless!) 5. There is no way to turn the nix off so it just kinda stays on until it runs out of battery. Every time I want to use it I have to charge it up for an hour. 6. The Nix does come with a lanyard which is great to make sure you don't accidentally put it down and leave it somewhere when out on a job 7. The Nix 3's colour accuracy is good. I mostly use it to match existing paint on walls but I also use it to colour match digitally. In conclusion: When it works, it works! It can be incredibly time saving when swatching lots of things. But even I (the designated office tech guru) always set aside 30mins whenever I plan to use it because it usually needs charging or bullying into working. Nix really need to refine their app.

May be ok for paint matching, not so much for fabric colours.
Overall useful, and kind of cool. It does seem to do a decent job with the advertised use of matching paint colours. I've been trying to use it to get accurate colours from fabrics (for ecommerce photos), but results here are more mixed. A painted wall is going to be pretty uniform in terms of colour, whereas the perceived colour of fabric can be very different to the colour measured by this device, as the surface is much more complex, and the way light reflects off of it is a big part of how the colour looks in real life. It's still been a useful way of getting a basic benchmark, especially as photographing a fabric results in wildly different colours to what is seen in real life, especially with smartphones automatically trying to make photos look "better" rather than accurate. Doesn't get used as much as I'd hoped though, as just doesn't help enough to get an accurate representation of the real world perceived colour. For paint matching, I'm sure it's much more useful.

If you need to find correct shades, get NIX 3 scanner
I got this for my husband who has over 20 years of experience as professional painter and decorator. He has always been very doubtful about any colour scanner and that they would give reliable results but because a job that was coming up with several colours to match, he knew he would start running between the shop and would need to spend an awful lot of money for tester pots. I took the plunge and thought if it doesnt work, we have tried but it could save him a lot of unnecessary running around. The delivery was prompt with amazon prime as usual and the set up of the scanner was super easy with the phone app. Well, what can we say. The results initially seemed like the shades were showing darker. But using then some tester booklets and scanning colours that we knew what they were, the matches were 100%, including the paint brand and colour name. What my husband did say that what one would need to keep in mind that certain paint brands just dont do exact matches that you may need. So you need to know your way around different companies and adjust your search result accordingly. For example shade X may be an exact match from Farrow&Ball or Johnsons but may not be available from Dulux. All in all the job that he did ended up being very quick because of the paint matches worked and the client was very happy. We hope the scanner will last and will be a great investment for years to come in regular use. Thank you

Nix Mini 3 & Ugreen Earphone Case
Just wanted to share some valuable information if anyone is involved in the Nix Mini 3 and a protective case. Ive used a nix colour sensor before and this Mini 3 is a great improvement on older generations inc the app features and general use-ability. I mainly use the sensor in the Construction Industry/Surveying/Project Management sector. Really works a treat and the improvements to the device and app are very welcome and make the process incredibly easy and professional and more importantly, accurate!! I pay for the premium Paint subscription for RAL collections. Which again, helps tremendously and i can save and share the collected data / scanned colours. I also bought and would totally recommend a protective case to put the NIx Mini 3,.. (My Choice was the Ugreen Earphone Case.) The Nix Mini 3 is a calibrated small device, so a “Hard Shell” type which i have used before for other items , and found it again, to be perfect for the Job. I still carry RALL Swatch cards like the K5 for Gloss & Semi Matt samples and they can be great as a confirmation on site, But to be completely honest,….they are Not needed anymore as I have found the accuracy of the Mini 3 absolutely Spot On.

Refurbished and out of order
I was disapointed to discover that the product was refurbished, something that wasn’t obvious in the text on the website. And the charging didn’t work at all.

Nix Mini 3 is an Outstanding Performer
The NIX Color Sensor Mini 3 is an outstanding performer and value. It is a very portable cordless handheld device, which can be easily calibrated. The NIX phone app can provide links to a very wide selection of commercial color libraries (Benjamin Moore, Sherwin Williams, Behr, Glidden, etc. for easy color matching -- it gives the scanned subject color on your phone screen and ability to scroll through the color libraries in a side by side visual for options for best match. Results a great! It eliminates a lot of guesswork. All you need to do is to take the best match information from the phone app to the paint store with the color settings provided for the specific brand of paint. So, you will need either an iphone OS or an Android OS, I used a iphone OS
