It is quite light wood that you can but it is just a coffee table with storage inside. **Q: Did anyone have issues receiving this item? I am waiting to receive it and the tracking info isn't being updated.** A: When I ordered I had no problem receiving it. Also the quality is good. Perhaps it's bcause of Christmas peak for deliveries. **Q: Hi can you tell me if the wood is varnished? If drinks get spilt on it does it stain?** A: No it's not varnished. We haven't spilt anything but I would guess it would stain if you spilt red wine or something like that. Nothing to stop you varnishing it yourself though? **Q: Can you tell me the size in inches i don't want it to be too small in the middle of lounge acting as a coffee table** A: Hi, The size is just under 43 1/2 inches long by 20 inches wide 14 inches deep. I use mine as a coffee table the colour was it was a bit too light for me so I waxed it a darker shade looks great.
