It's not overloaded and might seem too basic but that's just right. My daughter is 17 months. We've watched three times. Twice when she was 16 and another time recently. Important to me not to repeat dvd or allow her to watch always as would lose the new factor. I see it as educational so don't want her bored with it. With the first viewing she started to say 'miltch' meaning milk and now everything else. She understands things and would rather use signs than speak but that's how they progress. For example wave bye rather than say it. But after first viewing she started to say miltch which kind of has boost her confidence to saying things like mama and mummy with more confidence. The third viewing she picked up 'up' and pointing up too. It also acts as a knowledge check for us. If she recognises a word, you need to see the excitement. So endearing. Like she's pleased with herself too. For example if she sees the expression of hug and hears teddy, she's running around looking for her teddy and hugging. She's waving byes and oh saying them too. It's also an entertainment. You should also see my daughter dancing excitedly when the old macdonald's tune comes up. She's nodding her head, spinning, performing moves I've never seen. So even if you feel your toddler knows all, which can't be as I'm pretty sure they will still pick one or two things, let it be an entertainment so no losses. It's engaging for her. I was able to do sewing in th background while chipping in here and there. Don't play more than once though at a time! They will reach diminishing returns, get bored and maybe stop learning. Well that's my opinion. It also boost speech confidence. This woman knows what she is doing. Don't take for granted looks so easy. It works. So what have you got to lose? Anyway I like it. Kudos. This DVD is fantastic it's exactly what babies this age need, short clips literally seconds worth of individual pieces of visual and audio stimulation. Our first watch together and she simply watched with no reaction or interaction BUT.... from the 2nd vieing onwards she LOVES it and actually I do too. A great DVD the happy lady says hello, blows bubbles, plays peekaboo, signs words along with visuals of eat, drink, sleep etc as well as seeing and signing animal names along with their sounds, it goes through shapes, colours numbers and more. My daughter really interacts and screaches at the TV at the signing and animals she knows (as we have been doing sing and sign and tinytalk). She coo's and smiles at peekaboo and basically all of it. She is mesmerised with the whole thing and really watches and takes it all in. Her little feet kick about with glee and excitement. She especially likes it when I join in and sign and copy the actions of the lady. We have 3 other baby DVD's (TinyTalk, Nursery ryhmes, Sing and Sign) This is her favourite closely followed by the Sing and Sign DVD. She is non-verbal and has difficulty with speech sounds, so I thought this would be good for her. However, by the time I bought the DVD she was used to watching Something Special and other educational children's programmes, and this programme was too slow moving for her. It just did not hold her attention, presumably because it is aimed at babies of typical development rather than children with learning difficulties. Also, the signs are not Makaton and some are different eg milk, cow, and that would be confusing for my daughter.
