If you was to connect equipment that draws a current of 570amps in theory the battery would last for 1 hour. ( though rate of discharge & temperature influences the actual available capacity) If you connected something else that only required say 10 amps the battery would last 570/10 = 57 hours. The isolator switch is designed to be able to handle 500amps, regardless of the capacity of the battery.( I know of nothing that even approaches that sort of load, starting currents of 350amps etc. are for very short duration) it's highly unlikely anything connected to a 12v battery would draw that current. Power(P) = VA. so, 12 x 500 = 6000watts, (6kW). Massive! So the simple answer is for practical normal car/boat use that switch is adequate, because if everything was switched on it wouldn't total 6000Watts. **Q: How to fit ?** A: Most auto mechanics advise, for safety reasons, to only put a battery isolation switch on the negative circuit side of the battery. **Q: Can we switch it on and then remove the key?** A: Hi Theodore, the key cannot be removed as it has a pin on the bottom which locates into a groove in the switch.When you turn it on, it revolves and cannot be removed.I hope this helps.Best regards,Martin. ## Customer Reviews ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Very good value. *by T***G on 12 November 2016* I am using a pair of these as an isolation switch for my solar panel batter store, which currently consists of 4 * 130A/Hr deep cycle batteries. Each switch isolates a single bank of two batteries. I only draw 200Amp max but they seem OK with that. The haven't got warm so far, and I can't hear any contact 'pop' due to severe arcing during switch-over.These have only had limited testing but seem pretty good so far. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Quality always wins *by P***7 on 1 December 2013* My caravan had an isolator (unbranded) fitted to protect a 12v motor mover. After a short time contact began to be intermitent and I traced thid to the isolator. Bought this and immediately it functioned more positively.
