Excellent DnD 5e Supplement
My players and I have found the content and some of the innovative mechanics from this to have been remarkable additions to our DnD 5e campaign. Obviously Dark Souls is its own stand alone game, however if you a wondering if the content can be used or integrated into a DnD game the answer is a big YES. It's great.

Damaged Cover and Spine
Book came damaged and filthy, with a layer of dust. The hardback cover is not laminated, meaning that is scuffs and tears very easily, especially at or near the spine. As a result, it is likely that this will happen to your book as well, prospective buyer. As for the contents, it's alright. It's more of a collection of statblocks and custom character creation rules to append onto other TTRPG systems (namely D&D 5e), not a standalone system - therefore, it is not recommended for those who are inexperienced in running one such system beforehand. However, for fans of the series and experienced Game Masters, it's a great gift.

Very minor damage to cover/corners but otherwise great
I had to send the first one back because the corners of the book were quite dented/ruffled for what had been listed as a new book but they replaced it same day without question. The second one they sent still had a very minor bit of damage to the bottom spine but was happy to accept given the price paid. Did not come shrink-wrapped but overall very good quality and can confirm that this is the revised version of the book (after the first version contained a litany of errors and had to be pulled/pulped). Already used several times and still looks and feels fab

Reading it doesn't feel like you're reading a core rulebook
I'll start with my purchase experience. As it can be seen on my photo, the product had a small dent on one of the corners. I personally don't mind but it can be annoying if someone collects the RPG books in perfect conditions. Now, to the contents of the book. While reading it, it didn't feel like you're reading an actual core rulebook for the Dark Souls setting. Easily 80% of the book covered purely items, spells, enemies and locations. To be precise game mechanics can be found on pages 66-109. That is 40 pages (out of 380) on core rules. This setting feels more like an idea that you can give to an experienced GM, who can then turn it into something interesting rather than a complete setting. And that leads to my main issue - the book doesn't specify what type of gameplay is expected from both GM & the players. It gives general ideas on what can be the goal of the characters, how combat can look like but it leaves a lot of field for a GM to add to it. I recommend it only to experienced GMs. If you wanted to start your RPG adventure with the Dark Souls setting - do not buy this book, it'll be very confusing for you.

The game is fine
People saying it's broken may be right slightly but it's easy to change a few things for it to work. Book did arrive slightly creased on the corner

Not for new players to D&D
A colossal volume with some fantastic art that is, unfortunately, let down with a lacklustre take on D&D. Any capable Dungeon Master simply won't need this "campaign lite" style book - which barely counts as a proper campaign and more like a combined Player Manual and Monster Manual. But, if that's what you're looking for... DEFINITELY NOT FOR D&D NEWBIES.

This is, as stated in the header, a book to have on your shelf if you love the Dark Souls series. Take note, however, that there are two editions. The newer, updated edition (and the one you should get) is 380 pages; the older - and more buggy one - is 500 pages (from what I hear). Again, if you get this, get the art books for Dark Souls as well. They will have a place of honor on your bookshelves for years to come. Now...we await the Elden Ring TTRPG. And if they keep to the same rules as in Dark Souls, you can port your character over, and bring the Fire to the Lands Between and Beyond.

As a household deeply entrenched in the world of Dungeons and Dragons, adding the Dark Souls Roleplaying Game Source Book to our expansive collection was a no-brainer. And I can confidently say, it was an outstanding decision. The book itself is rich in content, offering new layers of complexity and challenges that fans of Dark Souls will undoubtedly appreciate. But what really makes it a stellar addition is its seamless compatibility with the RPG dynamics my family already loves. Even if you're not a die-hard fan of the Dark Souls video games, the lore, mechanics, and scenarios presented in this book offer a fresh and exciting twist on traditional role-playing adventures. It's a high-quality sourcebook that feels both familiar and innovative. In short, this book is not just a good fit for Dark Souls fans but for anyone interested in deepening their RPG experience. Five stars all around, and here's hoping for many engrossing campaigns ahead!

I would give this about a 3.5 rating. Lots of useful stuff with a starter adventure to help familiarize everyone with the game itself. Though it mentions using pre-generated characters, there are none provided.

As of this review I haven't completely read the book yet. I'm assuming this is the revised version as it came out fairly recently. The previous version that came out last March was terrible, so the authors promised to come out with a corrected version. I mainly got this book as several people I know play the videogame series and I wanted to see what all the excitement was about. The book uses the 5th edition rules set for D&D with modifications to fit the Dark Souls universe. There's lots of very good artwork and the flavor and themes are also well done. There are also a variety of character types and creatures to fight from the videogame including bosses. This is also the first rpg I've played where characters will respawn when killed. I really like the first page you come to when you open the book, simply : "You Died."
