Review: fantastic manga take on Norse storytelling - The first thing that strikes me about Vinland is that it's a Japanese take on Viking myth, culture, and story telling, so it's an interesting perspective into two cultures for the price of one. But more importantly, it's great story telling, with compelling and interesting characters, and very good art. It has the fast pacing of manga yet retains the epic grandeur and spectacle of Norse mythology. And along the way, there's interesting explorations of psychological and philosophical ideas (about family, honor, responsibility, ethics, etc.) without getting bogged down or preachy. And it's really well researched as historical fiction, with detailed care. The volume itself is really well put together, with a handsome cover. Looking forward to reading more!
