There is definitely a transformer coil in there.
This product is rugged and well built, and there is definitely a transformer inside the case. But in my situation, that is the problem. I purchased this product to carry with me on a trip through Europe, and it is HEAVY. It probably weighs in excess of ten pounds, and I don't have that kind of weight space in my luggage, and it's too heavy to carry in a backpack. My apologies, because it looks like a great product, but I must return it.
