MK K3191RPWHI 1.5m Single Way Ceiling Switch

I decided I would replace ALL the sockets and switching in my house after 40 years (well I don't rush things) as a couple started to fail, but they were a cheap brand that builder put in, and I was never happy with them. I have used MK switches (these are now made by Honeywell, a well respected name in industry), plugs etc for too many years to remember now, both in industry and household situations, so when it came to replacing all the ones in the house, MK was the brand I was going to use anyway. After replacing all the mains sockets and also the lighting switches, it then came down to replacing the two Ceiling Switches I have, one in the kitchen, one in the bathroom and two in the loft space. The bathroom one had already been replaced three times over the years (just with a couple of spare ones I had laid about at the time, NOT MK though) but they never felt or sounded right, they did feel cheap to start with. The first thing I noticed was the quality of these MK switches, they looked and felt really well made, especially when I compared it to the ones I took off. Fitting was easy, it was just a matter of a straight swap,as fortunately the holes in the old ones matched up with the MK ones, making the whole job really easy. After installing them, what a difference, they gave a nice satisfying 'click' as you pulled the cord to turn them on and off, so much better then the ones they replaced. I have deliberately left doing this review for 5 months, because of comments about these failing very quickly, either jamming or one person said it shattered when trying to remove the blank, I have no idea what he used to remove the blank though, but it obviously wasn't a suitable tool (no offence to the gentleman) or he used a big hammer, a very small nail punch or centre punch and a small hammer will do the trick to start with, then you can use a pair of small pliers to remove more to open it up... I have literally fitted hundreds of this type of switch and even the cheap ones never ever have one shatter. So all four of mine are replaced, but IF they do fail at any point because of a quality issue, rest assured I will definitely add an amendment to this, but I will be VERY surprised if I will need to do that.

Decent quality and does the job. Seems to be robust enough, but time will tell. Would have had five stars if it was made in the UK.

Easy to install. Perfect replacement for my other unit. Plastic is brittle so better not to tighten the srews too tight. Before installing, you have to break through the centre on the top plate, which is easy enough, but not explained properly in the instructions. The unit has a nice sounding and expensive feeling "click" which is great.

Has your bathroom light been broken by heavy handed kids or the wife? Then you'll need a new one. This is the MK Bathroom Pull Light Switch, in white with long adjustable pull cord. This is easy enough to install simply attach earth to base plate, then fit the other wires to common and live 1. Then screw on, jobs a good un. Oh make sure you switch off the electricity, or you'll fry. The action on the pull cord is good solid no plasticky clicking, this will last purely on the quality of the build. I fully recommend this pull cord, as it is a solid unit and will hopefully last longer than the previous.

Really easy to install and does what it syas.... but This product has only worked for about 1 year, now you have to fight with the cord to turn it on. The old one went the same way, but it lasted almost 9 years!

Excellent quality! I had used a cheaper manufacturer replacement previously which failed after only a couple of months, but this MK is a top quality manufacturer and is functioning well. Recommend.
