What is the role of moderator? Does it mean that this person has to be moderator and can't play activly? Can the app from One night be used with this

If the moderator is reading the actions they can’t really play another character and tend to become the person overseeing the game as it unfolds. If you want to avoid this the app is really good and we don’t play it without now.

Are the characters printed on card like a pack of playing cards or on thicker tiles? Cards can be noisy to handle during the night phase.

It’s like a normal deck of cards - size and shape. They are not noisey and you don’t really move the cards around during the night phase. You all get felt your card and look it during the day phase and then all the cards get put face down and left that way for the rest of the game.
