Review: Simple, fun, amazing value. - I bought mine for about £40 on desertcart, the price seems to fluctuate quite a bit, but that price is a bargain. You could buy it just for the figures at that price... 42 of them! I've modded my game quite a bit, if you are interested I'd head over to BoardGameGeek and do some looking at the variant and session forums for the game. I painted everything, added Wrath of Ashardalon to it (there is a guide on how to do this on BGG), made some 3D stairs and custom play mats and tuck boxes (the latter 2 are available free at BGG). I also bought some more dice, you get 1, but packs of D20s are pretty cheap. I played the first game, which is solo, and beat it... just. The game is so exciting, drawing you in that I found it very easy to just forget all the help I could have given myself. It was pure luck, I was surrounded by monsters but an Event card threw me to the furthest point of the dungeon away from everyone. Phew. I then played the second game with 2 players and got soundly beaten. Again, we got so caught up in the adventure we forgot all the help we could have used from treasure and cancelling events. The second attempt at this scenario we won, spending slightly longer calming down and making the most of some new tactics. The game says 1 hour, and its incredibly accurate. From start to finish its very, very close to that. There is a little bit of set up time, but it's not too long. It helps to have everything organized, so maybe build some compartments into the box, or bag things up. A lot of fun, good solo or with friends, not too long (which means more games), tonnes of figures.
Review: Castle Ravenloft board game - Game was brand new and in shrinkwap. Complete, with no miniatures missing, none duplicated. The game itself is very good fun when played solo, by player more than one character. I also looks promising as a cooperative game for up to 5 people - or even 6, if one of them acts as DM, which could give opportunities for more roleplay than is present in the base game. This is not really a roleplay game, more of a dungeon crawl puzzle game. The components are excellent for the price - very thick cardboard for the dungeon tiles, and over 40 miniatures for a price of about 50 euros or dollars, which makes the game great value even for a D & D GM, who could grab the minis and discard the rest! The miniatures are unpainted, which for me added hours of extra enjoyment. The first few I painted were terrible, but my skills are improving, and the painted monsters and allies make the game even more enjoyable.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: I have never played D n D but my son is desperate to play, it is his birthday soon, would you recommend this version for complete novices?**
A: Hi there,To plainly answer your question, yes this is suitable for beginners. However, the first thing to note is that this isn't the kind of DnD seen in the likes of The big bang theory, in which a dungeon master narrates the game and the players use character sheets and dice rolls to play through the game. If that's the kind your son is looking for then you need to look at getting the dungeons and dragons starter set which can be found on amazon. I have it and is quite useful for beginners. This game is an indepth board game, that uses tiles to randomly build a dungeon and has set adventures which set the scene and objectives, there isn't any freedom to do what you want, like in the RPG version. That being said it is a very good board game and very addictive. Different games (Wrath of ashardalon, and legend of drizzt) can be combined to make mega dungeons and huge adventures which is always good. Also there are plenty of resources on the internet that provide additional adventures if you run through them all.

**Q: Do characters level up between quests/play sessions and continue with xp and loot from previous sessions?**
A: Hey there, this isnt like the traditional pen and paper DnD, your characters only have 2 levels, and you can only lvl up by rolling a natural 20 and gets reset between adventures. As J. Bush said treasures and such get refreshed everytime also. However, I play by house rules and have permenant levels and treasures across the entire campaign, which i personally prefer to the orginial rules. This is a very good and enjoyable game however, I have all three of them, just waiting to beat Ashardalon before continuing onto Drizzt.

**Q: hi can any one tell me how tall the figure are? wandering if they will fit with my existing stuff**
A: The figures are 28mm scale. The same as moulds as other DnD Mini's from 4th ed.

**Q: i have 2 questions - 1. is this the easiest version to play for beginners 2. is their D & D dice included?**
A: Hi Joel. I have and play this and Wrath of Ashardalon with my 7 year old daughter and she picked up the mechanics with out a problem and this was her first exposure to this type of game. I feel they are both very easy for beginners to play. 2. These only use a d20 which is included in the box. Everything you need is included. Great game.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ great game
*by H***S on 28 August 2013*

I have played other D and D board games and this one is really good. It is more complex and challenging than I expected and my son (age 10) loved the variety of monsters and the great figures that come with the game. The playing pieces feel solid and good quality. I like the way each adventure is different because of the different combination of room tiles which emerge as you play. I would recommend to anyone who likes this type of game, especially if you have played other D and D board games before, although beginners may find it a little complicated to get started.
