These caramel shortcakes pleasantly surprised me considering the reviews, I'm so pleased I tried these for myself. My husband loves sweet treats but is fussy and hates things that go OTT on sweetness and pay little attention to flavour.We both loved the taste and so pleased the base was more similar to a pastry, it meant every layer had flavour which complimented each other. Any more sugar in the base would make each slice sickly and the size of each slice means they got the flavours spot on. Of course everyone is different but for us these slices are amazing

It's always going to be subjective, especially when I compare it to my favourite (Aldi; Mrs McGregor's - no longer available outside Scotland !).  I found the caramel layer to be too Toffee'e, and too hard. The melt-in-the-mouth sensation was absent, as was the flood of Caramel taste that accompanied the melt.  I also found the Shortcake/bread to be a bit too dry and brittle. It tended to break-up and fall off, while eating.  There was also an issue with the product weight. The advertised weight was a factor of 10 higher, however this now appears to have been corrected.
