It doesn't turn on by opening the door, but as soon as you reach for something, it comes on. Perfect IMO. I needed more light in our RV bathroom shower. And most of these rechargeable LED style lights are not waterproof. This is waterproof. It comes with 2 detachable loops, one at each end so I have it suspended nicely lengthwise across the shower using 2 mini carabiner style clips. They are very bright. They come on quickly. They turn off fairly quickly too, but I never have an issue getting them to come on again. One out of my three had a bad sensor and would not turn off at all. I contacted the seller and they sent a replacement in 2 days! It was even during the Thanksgiving holiday.
