Really smart unit.
A truly remarkable unit. A little fiddly due to its size but recording performance is outstandingly good as is mixdown EQ. It has very many features such as drum patterns and other stuff which I will never use,but as for a multi track recorder it is excellent. Battery life is good but it can be powered externally. I use it for electric violin and Cubase created backing tracks. Quality is superb. I lecture music technology and now find this an important must have tool.

A fantastic bit of kit but can be tricky to develop the finer functions. Amazing value for money.
This is a great bit of kit for the money. I haven't explored all the functions yet. I have tried the immediate mode where it acts a but like a tape recorder or message recorder. As an idea comes into your head it takes only a few seconds to boot it up and hey presto, using the two embedded microphones, you have a very faithful recording. Track recording, if you have done it before elsewhere, is also fairly simple. However, for the complete novice, producing a final mix does require frequent reference to the manual and is quite tricky. I feel that this is due to what they have packed into such a tiny device, using cusor type arrows and a selector wheel to make choices. I also feel that with HD colour screens on phones becoming pretty much the standard, the monochrome display provided is very old fashioned, but having said that, it is reasonably functional once you get the hang of it. The sound quality is excellent but I haven't blasted the results through anything more powerful than a practice amp . It's great that this is literally a handheld device, and I have small hands but to make it a centimetre wider and broader would probably allow for a better control layout and a better screen...perhaps even colour, and I dont think it would detract from its deminutive portability. As a quality recording device it is at the inexpensive end of the market and adding a few extra pounds for a better display would raise it high above the opposition. Would I buy it again... certainly.

Good sound quality and great guitar patches
Purchased this after buying and returning an alternative brand which was not fit for purpose. I have previously used a Boss BR600 which i loved but it developed a minor fault which I am n ot brave enough to attempt to repair, so I bought the BR80. It works as a quality multi track recorder (I play mostly guitar) but I am frustrated by manufacturers trying to shrink products as far as possible, which for myselff, coping with sight issues, is completely pointless . I prefer the size of the BR600 and its individual track physical knobs. I am still learning to use BR80 and I have not adequately managed connection to my Windows 10 laptop for further functionality. I run Cubase on a laptop and struggle to migrate files from one to another system. The sound quality appears good but I have not recorded vocals yet. I love the vast range of guitar sound patches.

A Recording Studio in Your Pocket
Thsis is quite an amazing piece of equipment. More than just a multi-track recorder, it is jam packed with special effects and recording tricks. The results are quite astounding. This is a must for any budding musician or a professional for that matter I have had it for about a month and have so far uncovered only a few of it's "secrets". It comes with quite a good sized manual, but this manual seems to assume prior knowledge of this type of equipment and in many bits lacks adequate description. Fortunately, there are some tutorials available on You Tube worth looking at if you get stuck. It can be used at gigs too as it can be plugged into your amplifier to use it's many instrumental or vocal effects. It is also very small and light, literally pocket size.. This has so far been a very good purchase. = Mr. T.S.C. Kucharski

Not quite a studio in miniature by itself
Which is not to say that it isn't capable of multi-track recording and mixdown as a standalone gadget. It is, and the quality it pretty good to boot. But it is physically very small which means the display is small and not high-res, resulting in a blocky effect on the graphics and text. So the small size is definitely a good thing if you want to take it around with you but it does make using the controls for anything other than basic stuff a bit fiddly. Fortunately it comes with Sonar X1 LE software which means that you can do all the clever stuff on your computer having used the BR-80 as a capture device. I've used a number of different budget and higher end programs for multi-track recording and I can't say Sonar (Cakewalk) is one I immediately warm to so if you've got a program you're happy with you may be able to stick with that and just copy the audio files across and import them. This is because the BR-8 has two modes when connecting via USB, one makes the BR-8 act like a normal removable disk drive and the other enables it to act as a 'soundcard'. When you run the installation software (stored on the BR-8) it installs as recording and playback devices, at least it did in Windows 7. Worth noting, the BR-8 input and output devices are only available in Control Panel (Sounds) when it is plugged in, turned on and the USB mode is set as USB Audio rather than USB Storage. Other stuff like the quality of the COSM sounds has been noted by others and is outstanding and suprisingly usable. It was kinda amusing to use the COSM Bass sounds with a regular electric guitar and get very passable basslines. There are the normal caveats like you can't record all tracks live at the same time, but you would have to have more than one input to do that and there's certainly not enough room for Boss to have done that. In summary, what you get for the price is outstanding value. If portable multi-track recording is what you are after, the BR-8 has to be a major contender.

Einfach Wahnsinn. Ich bin jedenfalls sehr zufrieden
