I tried those first, and a full quarter of the stakes broke off; they also bend too much. I have heavy, compacted clay soil and those stakes were just not up for the job, even with pre-wetting. These Dimex stakes all worked without breaking, and they can even be pulled out if you hit a rock or root as long as you have something to grab the head with. Having installed about 140 feet of this no-dig edging, I found that it's best to stop pounding when encountering resistance from the soil (from compaction, not roots), then wait for a rain (or water) before finishing them off. Because it gets so hot here in Georgia in the summer, I decided to go on and put a stake every other hole, so I needed a lot of extra stakes. Another tip: use a metal tent stake to test your hole before trying to drive in a plastic stake. This way, if you encounter an immovable object, you can either pound on through it (if a small root) or at least know that particular place is not a good candidate for a stake...at least not without digging out whatever the obstruction is. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Expensive, but the best *by C***R on Reviewed in the United States on May 7, 2018* Lucky for me, I've learned more than I'd like about the various landscape spikes out there. For a plastic spike, these are the Rolls Royce of the bunch and you can't do any better. They do not flex and the heads do not break off, and they securely anchor the edging we were using into the ground.Unfortunately, they also cost significantly more than any other spike available, but you almost cannot do without them. Doing several hundred feet of edging, we did find a way to cut some costs though.Every few feet we used these spikes in the landscape edging to get everything about how we wanted. Then we went back with a big box of the cheaper ones (the do have issues with the heads breaking off and bending, but you get double for half the price) and used them to secure everything down. They don't work as well, but with the Dimex doing most of the work we haven't had any issues. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ I Just Keep Buying More..... *by D***M on Reviewed in the United States on July 12, 2019* I have purchased this item twice now and i wish I had written a review the first time around. This product is super simple to install. The first purchase I used this for setting landscaping edging for mulched in area in the front of the house. It was easy enough in standard soil to just hand push these in. The second time using these I used for paver edging, so I was going to be pounding these through a crushed stone base. Again for most I was able to hand push these in, while a few required the use of a rubber mallet. The holding strength on these is exceptional and if you do need to remove it requires a bit of pulling, but still pretty easy to do. Both times I purchased the 144 case at 69.99 from Amazon, which I feel is a great value for the quantity and the cost per spike. It drops the per spike rate to at about 50 cents a spike. There are number of similar option available but at a much higher cost per spike. I would not pay over the 50 cent per spike rate on these. I have enough uses, maybe not now, but soon enough that it is worth buying in the larger quantity. These are good for staking down other items as well. I have tried some big box store methods of staking and none have matched these and at the price they are available here.
