I use mine with Duracell Duralock batteries and it has no problem heating up. Perfect for repairing guitar pedals and DI boxes and desoldering microchips. Had previously used gas irons for 'on site' tech repairs, and still keep one with me for some of the heavier duty jobs, but 9 times out of 10 this will do the job nicely. Its really nice not to have heat vented from the side like you get with gas irons, all the heat is where you need it at the tip.

I tried every AA battery known to man but still it heats so slowly that there is every chance that the second coming will occur before it is ready. But it nevers seems to get hot enough to melt the solder, ever, it does get WARM and thats about all. DO NOT BUY - WOULD NOT RECOMMEND

Really handy little soldering iron, with a nice fine tip. I use mine with Duracell Duralock batteries and it has no problem heating up. Perfect for repairing guitar pedals and DI boxes and desoldering microchips. Really handy heats up fast and for my purposes, the tip size is most suited for the soldering of the tiny surface mounted components. Cheap as chips and gets the job done.
