Amtech G4100 Plumb bob and line

Top quality at a great price. Used it a few times and it's perfect.

When assembled with the right string, its 100%. As others note, getting the string in is a pain. My solution was poking through with a bent paperclip, but the supplied string is so fine that knotting it big enough to prevent it slipping out is close to impossible and having done it, the bob cocks over to one side opposite the knot. Useless. Throw the supplied string away and poke the thickest you have got through the hole and bob is now your uncle.

There's not a lot to say about a plumb bob. It's a good weight and the supplied cord is narrow. It works!

Looks great but the bit where you are meant to tie the string off is useless, not easy to do. fair to fiddley

For the kind of occasional use I have in mind, this is perfect. I fitted the cord without any great difficulty, and it seems likely to be strong enough for my needs, though I can imagine that a professional might want something heavier-duty (and more expensive). For what it cost, it's brilliant.

Seeing the previous photos posted by other buyers, I was worried that it won't point straight. But that person clearly didn't know how to tie the string to the plumb bob. As you can see in the photo I posted, if you tie the string this way the plumb bob will point straght. Still not 100% perfect, but even with more expensive products you won't get a much better accuracy. And for the price I think this product deserves 5 stars.
