extremely unhappy another christmas ruined
this is the 3rd time I have ordered a ps3 super slim and it has been faulty. This was meant to be a Christmas present for my younger brother. I paid out ยฃ210.88 pounds for a 500 gig hard drive and this ps3, and the ps3 wont read the hard drive and when I try and play any games I get an error message saying "unable to load" and I have tried it with a pre ordered game which was 'Destiny Taken King' that he wanted. it has given me the same message over and over. I would like my money back on a full refund so that l can get him one from a shop. I have also been in contact with Sony and they have stated the ps3 is faulty and that I should return it to the retailer. I am seriously not happy my brother has had it real hard since he was 10 years old with our mother fighting Cancer and our father leaving us on Christmas l am trying very hard to give my brother a decent Christmas the first in 7 years yet it seems that another Christmas is to be ruined by these fake sellers.

Wow, what a console!
When the PS3 12gb Slim appeared it had finally hit a price point I was prepared to pay (ยฃ149), I only wish it had arrived at this level a few years back. The PS3 is such a versatile console it gets used virtually everyday, be it for watching Netflix, Blue Ray or playing games. The 12gb HDD is pretty pathetic and we had filled it up within a week. It took a few days to find a compatible 160gb disk for under ยฃ15 and a caddy for ยฃ10 and suddenly we had a console that at the time people were paying around ยฃ200 for, so it really is a bargain at this price. The fact that the 12gb is not disk based storage makes transferring your save data across to a new HDD a doddle, with no need to create back ups and restore data, you just put a new drive in and follow the instructions. One point I will mention is that I found it very difficult to track down anywhere that tells you how to access the HDD bay on this particular model. This situation may have improved but in case you are stuck it is one of the oval shaped panels at the end of the machine. It is fiddly but you slide and pull it and it will come off. The main strength of the PS3 is its gameplay, and game support. We have a rival console which sits gathering dust due to a lack of decent games for it (Hint: it sounds a bit like a toilet function). There is no such shortage of great games for the PS3, and they look fantastic. My favourite at the moment is Drake's Deception, the scenery in this is amazing and I find I can waste a lot of time looking at it rather than getting on with the game. So until the PS4 comes out and down to a reasonable price I'm definitely glad I bought a PS3 and finally accept what my son was telling me for years - that it probably is the best console at the moment.

Great product, great price, but consider carefully if it's right for you (can be upgraded)
This is one of two UK models of Sony's third major version of its PS3 console. The main differences between the two models are the size of storage included (the majority of this review discusses that difference) and the price - this model's a lot cheaper, the cheapest PS3 yet. What the two models have in common is that they are both significantly smaller and lighter than Sony's previous PS3 versions. They also have a top loading disc drive rather than a slot loading one (a button releases a catch so the cover of the drive slides aside, then you push it back in place after inserting the disc). Aside from that there are few major differences from the last generation - same number of USB ports (2), same outputs, no SACD or PS2 disc compatibility, etc . The reduction in size and weight is very welcome and although some may feel slot loading is cooler and marginally more convenient, it's not a big deal, and you can understand that by doing this they have been able to make the unit cheaper. To deal with the differences, this model has a stated storage size of 12Gb, made up of flash memory. The other model has a stated storage size of 500Gb, this being hard drive storage. When I got my 12Gb PS3 I immediately downloaded the latest version of the system software, and after that I checked the storage size available according to the system. It said I had 9108MB left. (Why not 12Gb? Well the system software takes up some space) So is it worth going for this model at a cheaper price? That will depend on how you want to use the PS3, and you should give it some careful thought before buying. If you want to use your PS3 to store more than a very small amount of audio or video, this is definitely not a good choice for you. The storage space is too small for that. For watching blu ray discs though, it's fine, even good (in fact, even though it's more expensive than entry level blu ray players, it must be worth ยฃ100 or so alone as a player considering that it has a built-in wireless receiver, no dongle required, and that Sony is so quick with updates so all the latest discs play just right). You can also easily connect an external hard drive or usb stick to play music or videos (or to take backups - more on that later). Games is where it gets tricky. Considering disc-based games first, most PS3 games have only small compulsory install or patch sizes (some have none at all) and fairly small save sizes. These don't present a problem. However a significant minority of games do have fairly large mandatory installs and some of these can be very large. It appears the game 'Rage' has the largest compulsory install for a disc-based game yet released, at 8Gb. So in short yes you can play any currently released disc-based game on this model, and now this model is released, especially as it's fairly late in the PS3's life cycle, it seems unlikely that Sony would allow a disc-based game to require an install greater than this 12Gb model could handle. (in fact you might wonder if this 12Gb size has been chosen to be as small as possible but so 'any game' plays...). Even so you can see how if you had Rage installed there wouldn't be room for much else. That's an extreme case but it's not uncommon for games to have install sizes of a few Gb. If you're the kind of person who wants to keep many games on the go, or who just wants to forget about install issues, then this isn't for you. If you are content to have a couple games on the go (plus an indefinite number of those with very small install and save sizes, of which there are many) then this is a good choice. Some games can't be purchased on disc and must be purchased on the Playstation Network (PSN), these tend to be smaller games or revamped classics. They tend to have smaller sizes so with some careful memory management the issue is really the same as the one above for disc game installs (install sizes are fairly typical of the sizes of games that aren't available at all on disc). So again if you want to keep many of these permanently on your PS3 this isn't for you. You can also download any purchased game from the Playstation Network up to 5 times, and you can backup PSN games to a USB storage device by taking a backup of all your data (you can also backup MOST saves individually, as long as the game doesn't 'copy protect' them). The same data storage issues apply to downloadable game demos you can get from PSN, which tend to be around similar sizes - although with these you'll likely to be happy to get rid of them after you've played. And again, there is downloadable content for some games which will also take up more space. A minor point is the fact that this model has flash memory storage whereas the 500Gb model has hard drive storage. Flash memory is often said to be faster than hard drives, lighter, quieter and more reliable. Well the memory on this PS3 doesn't seem to be working faster - the Metal Gear Solid 4 regular (not full) install took about 8-9 minutes for me, the same as it does with a PS3 with a hard drive. Other installs don't feel faster either (maybe even slightly slower, but not significantly so). It is lighter but that doesn't make a huge difference to the weight. It is quieter but the hard drive on the PS3 isn't too noisy anyway. As for reliable, we'll have to see, but it seems PS3 hard drives are fairly reliable anyway. At least you can perhaps feel a bit cooler or more modern knowing you have flash memory under the hood, for people who care about that kind of thing! Having said all that about storage space, it should be noted that you can install a hard drive in it (and it doesn't have to be a proprietary hard drive), similar to how the hard drives in all PS3s can be switched / upgraded. In fact some have noted that with the price of this model and the price of hard drives, it could save you money to buy this model and a 500Gb hard drive, over buying the 500Gb model. Or you could add a larger hard drive, e.g. 1Tb. However you not only need a hard drive but also a caddy (or 'mounting bracket' as Sony call it) that will fit. Search for "Sony PlayStation 3 Replacement Hard Disk Drive (HDD) Mounting Bracket" on Amazon now and you will find the caddy listed. Sony are also releasing an official hard drive for this model with the caddy included, search "Sony PlayStation 3 250GB Hard Disk Drive (HDD) (Includes Mounting Bracket) (PS3)" for that product on Amazon. You can install other hard drives though - make sure you pick one that with 2.5" width, 9.5mm height, 5400rpm speed and with SATA interface, to make sure it's compatible. The PS3 has a great library of games now with many more greats to come even though the PS4 is said to be just around the corner. It's also a very good blu ray player. I'm someone who is fine having just a few games on the go at a time and I knew I could handle the memory management issues that would come with this model. I prefer to buy games and movies on disc. I have a PC and an external hard drive for audio and video. So this model was just right for me and I was able to take advantage of the significantly lower price point.

The quietest PS3
I needed one of these to run some PS3 classics that haven't yet been remastered, or superceded by remakes, that I could run on my PS4 or PS5 ... and because I wanted a PS3 to add to my PlayStation console and hand-helds collection. It arrived in very good condition with barely a scratch on it (yes I carefully wiped it and all accessories with alcohol wipes to be safe), and it had been PAT tested with the security seal intact. Knowing this is only part of accepting it as fully working, I hooked it up to a 4K display to be greeted by a black screen. Not to be deterred, and noticing it had been reset to factory settings in the description helpfully enclosed, I hooked it up to my "displays everything" 1080p tv/monitor and it proved easier to plug in the HDMI firmly on a smaller display. OOPS. Wall mounted displays can be awkward. It required the latest firmware to be downloaded amongst other settings to be changed. Navigating the XMB interface is fairly easy to do once you get the hang of it, and it even accepts input from a USB keyboard for all the network and PSN account settings I needed to enter. All through this I barely noticed the fan. Although not as silent as a PS5 this certainly is the quietest of all PS3 models if properly maintained. Yes, I know it doesn't have PS1, PS2 backwards compatibility, but I plan to get a PS2 when I find one in equally good condition. And I know this model only came with 12GB NAND Flash storage, but I have both a 500Gb HD drive and a 120Gb SSD to try out once the expansion drive bracket I've also ordered through Amazon Marketplace arrives. (Edit: I went with the SSD for the speed boost in game loading. Worked great!) Now for my Pros and Cons with my experience. Pros: It came with a working official Dual Shock 3 Six-Axis controller in immaculate condition, something I wasn't expecting at this price, and working HDMI and power cables. Cons: It was missing a USB cable for the controller, but this was covered in the Seller's description along with the lack of original packaging, so I have no complaints. I have another that this system can borrow while I order a replacement. Conclusion: I know this sounds fortunate compared to some other reviews, but I took my time double checking what I did during initial set-up, and the time to read the seller's description carefully I only bought this console based on the amount of information they were willing to give and their feedback score. My thanks to WeBuyBooks for being so thorough.

12GB not enough for some games - overall, average
I bought this to play DVDs and BDs, watch a bit of catch up TV (my Samsung TV only has BBC iPlayer), and play the only game I'll ever buy - Gran Turismo 5. The truth is that it does everything fairly well, but nothing exceptionally well. The bad news is that you can't install GT5 on the 12GB memory, so you have to run it from the disc all the time. I think this is probably because when you set up the PS3 it downloads a huge amount of new software to upgrade itself and this takes up a lot of the memory. Why they couldn't have given it even just a bit more than 12GB I don't know, especially when memory is so cheap these days. Everything else on the PS3 is equally underwhelming, and yet acceptable. ITV Player, 4OD and BBC iPlayer work okay, but image quality is fairly poor (much poorer than the BBC app on my Samsung TV). So I probably won't use those as much as I thought. BDs look pretty good though, and upscaled DVDs look fine. It is a bit of a pain using the dual shock remote for these, and I can't justify buying the separate remote control that's designed for BD/DVD playback. The spinning of the disc is quite noisy; you get used to it during a film, but the room seems very quiet when you switch it off. The online functions are all a bit clunky, and if you've ever used an iPad or something similar, using this is like going back in time twenty years. A lot of the PS3 experience feels a bit like this. Tried 3D with GT5 and the online samples in the menu, but I shan't bother again since it reduces the resolution, and with GT5, the frame rate too. Easy enough to set up though (make sure you get the right HDMI cable). The dualshock controller is good though. It recharges via an included USB cable you plug into the front of the PS3. You can use it while it's charging. All in all, this feels like a product that's coming to the end of its shelf life. I waited until the price was ultra low, and it was just about worth getting. But I may have been better just getting a regular BD player and forgetting about the one game that I'll rarely use.

is gonna cover me until the ps4
in the box u get a 40ยฃ DS3 controller so the console costs about 100ยฃs and so is really very cheap. although you couldn't play BF3 you can attach an external hard drive quite easily. the console is working fine and although is very late in the year and if your using 4-5 year old ps3 and the blue-ray player is giving you trouble as mine was i would recommend it. i had already changed the blue ray player once already on my old console and it was only good for downloadable content such as 'the last of us' but i needed this console for GTA5 coming in September. it works very well and is stil pretty loud but quieter than the old banged up 320gb ps3 it replaced. I figure when the ps4 comes i shall just give this to my little sister or a mate without a Ps3 who i know wont get the new console.

late delivery and came without the harddrive
The rating isnt for the product itself, its more how it arrived Having an original 40gb PS3 which sadly recieved a YLOD i decided to renew my console and tranfser my data to the new machine: Issue 1: I ordered through prime with next day delivery, which ended up being three days later, which i complained about but Amazon could not do anything about even though i was promised delivery which was not upheld Issue 2: After eagerly awaiting two extra days and it finally turning up before work i waited 14 hours until id finished work to be able to swap the harddrives and set up i opened up the console to discover there wasnt even a harddrive in the machine. Already run into two big problems with my order which is incredibly frustrating after i forked out in good faith having had such a well used and brilliantly perfoming original ps3 for the past 7 years
