Excellent game for adults and/or children - and it's furry!
The creators of this, and of Exploding Kittens: A Card Game About Kittens and Explosions and Sometimes Goats , are clearly as mad as a box or two of frogs. Last year, I bought Exploding Kittens as a Christmas present for everyone and it went down extremely well. Bears vs Babies, by the same bunch of loonies, had a few quid off before Christmas this year so I bought it. The box is furry. A nice kind of fur, quite stokeable so watch out for people having a crafty feel and be sure to make fun of them. There is no real reason for this. It's a gimmick. A nice one. The game title is one to be ashamed of. I consider it terrible to think that some people might see this as condoning violence against poor, defenceless bears. Thus, I'm much relieved to find that the game would more appropriately be called 'Monsters vs Babies' as the bears play only a small part. The monsters (might be bears) you design do their best against armies of various kinds of babies and your job is to build up your monster army to defeat them. Sounds silly? Oh no - not silly at all. This game is one of deep strategy. Do you invoke the babies when you know you can defeat them with a small army and win lots of small amounts, or do you build a large army and aim to defeat (and hence win) more babies? The creators of the game have obviously spent a lot of time, in whatever asylum houses them, test playing this game. The rules are basically simple (children can play this - there's nothing actually horrific in it, unless you've been at the grown-up's juice) but there are subtle nuances that seem strange at first, but make sense once you have played a few times and got a hang of the strategy. You can't play this game on your lap - you'll need a coffee table or bigger to lay your monsters out on so don't buy it to play on a transatlantic flight - Exploding Kittens is your choice for that. So, my advice is to buy this game if you're wondering whether to shell out for it or not. If you're intending playing it with small people, it'll be fine and you'll probably have to accept defeat to your eight year old, but if you're intending it to be played amongst adults and you've imagining late nights with a chink of glasses and a game to make people look at you squinty-eyed as you force them to waste their army then you've got the right picture in your mind.

Very easy to learn this game.
Very easy to play, you basically have three moves each. You can either place a card or pick one up.. for instance pick up two cards then place one down on the table, or if you have good cards already just place three cards down. Or if you need more cards just pick up three. The object of the game is to create monsters within different colour groups. If you pick up a baby card it must be placed in the designated spot. Once this pile builds up and you feel you have strong enough monsters in that colour code.. PROVOKE THE BABIES! If your score is higher then the babies score you win the baby cards. If it isn’t then the babies win and they stay put but you loose all your cards you played and they go into the discard pile. Person with the most baby cards win! Very easy to grasp and a fun game to play with kids. We watched a tutorial on YouTube so we could all sit down and watch the rules before we played. I personally feel the game is over to quickly and would be better with double the amount of cards but apart from that we enjoyed this game and have played it around 10times this weekend. The case is very cute and fluffy and cards are all good quality. The mat is made of fabric. My 10year old son loves all the funny animal heads.

Ridiculous, Strategic and Perfect for Family Game Nights
We picked this up after loving Exploding Kittens and it definitely has the same chaotic sense of humour. The box alone is worth a mention, it’s covered in soft furry material for absolutely no practical reason other than being funny, and everyone who comes over ends up touching it. The gameplay is really easy to learn. Each turn you get three actions which can be a mix of drawing and playing cards. You’re building monsters by matching colour groups, and whenever a baby card appears it has to go straight into the baby area. Once you think your monster is strong enough in that colour, you can choose to provoke the babies and battle them. Win and you take those baby cards, lose and the babies stay while you discard everything you committed to the fight. The winner is whoever collects the most baby cards. What makes it interesting is the decision making. You can go in early with smaller monsters for safer wins or take a risk and build a huge monster to grab more babies in one go. It sounds silly but there’s a surprising amount of strategy once you’ve played a few rounds. It’s great with kids and adults alike. We watched a quick tutorial online and were playing properly within minutes. The cards feel decent quality, the fabric play mat is a nice touch and the case is genuinely fun. The only downside is that games can feel a bit short, I think it would be even better with a larger deck, but we’ve still played it loads already and everyone enjoys it. For the price it’s a brilliant family game to add to a collection.

Great replayable game
Great game...not really anything to do with Bears though other than the fluffy brown box. Needs a LOT of table space even for 2 players so we improvised it on our small table. It's fun, plenty replayable and you can improvise the rules a bit to make it easier / harder as you want

Great game!
It sounds a little complicated to start with, even when watching the animat d instructional video online. However just throw yourself into a practice game and use the faqs as you go and it’s great! Really easy!! My 6 year old daughter was enthralled for a good few hours. I really enjoyed the quality time and was happy to see my daughter using strategy to improve her chance of winning. Fab packaging that really sparked interest from my child. Great graphics and age appropriate too. I think kids below 10 are likely to enjoy this game too. However I wouldn’t go much younger than uk year one as they arent likely to follow the game too well.

Is it just me?
I really wanted to love this game, but it confuses the wholey heck out of me. Maybe my tired mum brain just doesn't work like it used to, but the rules do seem a little over complicated. That said, we had a laugh trying to work it out and some of the concoctions we came up with were comedy gold. I'm glad we gave it a whirl, but it's not my favourite game from this company. I do enjoy that art work and the game itself is good quality but if given the choice, I'd go for exploding kittens.

Brilliant family game!
Bought for me by my husband for Xmas, for playing with our 2 boys. They loved the concept of fighting babies with very cool, bespoke bears with high-spec weapons! The instructions are a bit complicated at first (the you tube video is awesome and well worth a watch) but the box is divided into two, so you get used to the simpler game first before adding in more complicated options which really ramp up the cunning and sly. Both the boys (age7 and 9) understood what they needed to do (beat the babies!) and the older one shortly won the first game resulting in a near-tantrum by myself. Fortunately for the kids, this game comes with a fabric playmat rather than a stiff playing board so no one got injured...

Ridiculous furry fun
A great game for the family. You need a wide playing field as the monsters you make take up a fair bit of space. The ridiculous images on the cards are entertaining and making the monsters is a fun experience. A bit of strategic planning is need to win, so it's a bit of a challenging game.
