It's great!!! Providing you don't expect too much.What I mean by that is simply since this watch was released we've been besieged with smartwatches, such as the Apple watch, all the various Android wear ones and Samsung's Tizen powered efforts. Even Pebble have released their newer "Pebble Time and Time Steel" plus the new Time round watches.Pretty much all of those can do more than the Pebble Steel but the truth is... you probably don't need any of those features. Yes, I'm sure some watch enabled apps for iPhone and Android will be useful, for 90% of the time though you'll want your watch *to be a watch* and show you alerts from your phone as and when they happen and that is where the original Pebble and this less toy-like Steel version excel.The Pebble Steel's screen is monochrome, it's pretty much like a conventional digital watch to look at, as in it reflects available light to make it visible indoors and out without having to activate its backlight (which is pretty clear indoors and out also). Take a tip from me and disable the shake your wrist to turn the backlight on feature. It uses a light sensor to disable that in the sunshine but doesn't under fluorescent light so every time it detects a movement it interprets as you shaking your wrist, it'll turn on the light and waste battery. Including when you're wearing longsleeved shirts, jumpers, coats etc. If you need the light, press the single button on the side.The screen is also always-on, which means you don't have a blank watch face until you shake your hand about nor are you wasting battery powering an HD/retina screen as the e-paper one Pebble uses is very low power.Battery wise, I still get a good six-seven days from my watch, even after almost a year. I guess it's because I don't mess around with it, I just let it alert me of things and display the time. Even with weather functions on it still lasts six-seven days. I guess I'm lucky on that front? In any case I don't find charging it once a week arduous and it seems to charge pretty quickly. I will say though that the magnetic connector fits snugly but doesn't always commence charging when you power on the plug. I just unclip and clip on again and the charging light comes on that watch. No big hassle really. Bluetooth is also pretty stable and works nicely.If you want a lot of apps for your watch then Pebble does have a pretty decent selection which you can load and unload from the watch easily enough - so easily in fact that as you're restricted by 8 slots (like an old Playstation memory card) you may as well keep a load on the locker on the app on your phone and just switch them up into the watch as and when you need them. Keep a few favourite faces/apps on the watch for general use and you'll be fine.The accelerometer and compass work well enough in my watch though after a month or so of playing with various fitness/sleep/compass apps, I don't bother with them much now.In terms of aesthetic, it depends on what you like. This watch comes on brushed steel (the one I have) and matte black. It also only comes with a black leather band/strap. You can get matching steel bands from Pebble or 3rd parties but because of the central lug on the watch itself getting 3rd parts new straps for this will be tricky. If you don't care about that it won't be an issue, if you do then you'll have to get an adaptor or the plasticky original Pebble.Is this still worth getting after the Apple Watch and others have arrived? Well, frankly... yes. IF you want a smartwatch the looks discrete (with an admittedly slightly geeky boxy 80s style), can be used as a watch realistically for more than a day and get alerts and notifications from your phone. If you're after paying for stuff on the watch, playing games, sending ludicrous drawings/your heartbeat or talking to it like you're Dick Tracey then, no, just get any of the other offerings.As a sidenote to the unconvinced; The app works well on iPhone and I have successfully used Google Maps to send alerts to the Pebble Steel to give me discrete walking directions in towns and cities I don't know my way around. A lot better than walking about with a smartphone in your hand. The notifications will also help you trim down the amount of information you get alerted to. You don't realise until its piped directly at you. I've culled a lot of spurious notifications now and I'm a lot happier that I only get important stuff through. ### ⭐ 1.0 out of 5 stars Faulty Over Time - support? What support... *by T***M on Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 1 October 2015* An amazing watch at first, but after a bit of time it will begin to randomly unpair itself with the device you have it paired to, then goes onto not being able to pair at all while the app with then move onto nothing but loading. You will be needing to buy a new one every few months as it is designed to break and the app seems to recognise when the watch goes wrong and also goes wrong too.Along side this I am attempting to get in contact with pebble support, after emailing them 3 times and waiting a month and a half I finally get a reply to the first email then they take weeks between each reply after, claiming that they have just had a massive upburst of people contacting them. Must be the whole world having the same problem right now. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5.0 out of 5 stars Love it! *by T***N on Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 18 February 2015* I have had my Pebble Steel for a month and I'm very happy with it indeed.I didn't like the leather strap, so I also bought the official steel strap which makes the watch feel more robust. To me the bulkier strap is more visually appealing against the thickness of the brushed steel watch unit itself compared to the leather strap.I use mine mainly for Endomondo (GPS sports tracking), To-do list notifications, the gentle alarm for waking in the morning (unlike some other reviewers I have no problem with the vibration being too soft, but I am a light sleeper), and reviewing text message notifications from a variety of apps.Pros:====* You really do get battery life of 4+ days, even with a fair bit of use. Disabling the backlight seems to give a few more days.* The new Android Wear integration means you can now reply to text messages directly from the watch with some stock answers or using emoticons.* Using AutoPebble in conjunction with Tasker I can create my own menus and launch actions. That pretty much allows you to do anything you want on the phone, depending on your Tasker skills of course.* With the standard function I can reject calls without taking my phone out of a pocket. But when running it's ideal as I also use a bluetooth headset for music, and with the watch I can see who's phoning and then answer calls too. Without interrupting my run and stopping.* I can see the screen clearly in most light conditions.* I can control music even when my phone is elsewhere at home.* When running I can now hide the phone in a waterproof pocket and still see progress on the watch. No more twisting my arm round at awkward angles to see the phone screen!* Connects seamlessly to my Samsung S4 and maintains bluetooth connection all around the house.Cons:=====Struggling to find anything worth mentioning really.* The screen resolution is low (and monochrome) compared to the more expensive smartwatches and that does give it a retro look, but it's fine for my needs. I don't need to display images or videos or play games, I can use my phone for that.* With the Apple watch coming out this year, I have read that Pebble may lose ground in the market but the Android Wear integration could now mitigate that.Anyway I would definitely recommend getting one.As an aside I am a consumer and have no affiliation with the manufacturer nor Amazon.
