Product Description Tumble down the rabbit hole with Alice for a fantastical new adventure from Walt Disney Pictures and Tim Burton. Inviting and magical, Alice In Wonderland is an imaginative new twist on one of the most beloved stories of all time. Alice (Mia Wasikowska), now 19 years old, returns to the whimsical world she first entered as a child and embarks on a journey to discover her true destiny. This Wonderland is a world beyond your imagination and unlike anything you’ve seen before. The extraordinary characters you’ve loved come to life richer and more colorful than ever. There’s the Mad Hatter (Johnny Depp), the White Queen (Anne Hathaway), the Red Queen (Helena Bonham Carter), the White Rabbit (Michael Sheen) and more. A triumphant cinematic experience – Alice In Wonderland is an incredible feast for your eyes, ears and heart that will captivate audiences of all sizes. desertcart.co.uk Review The marriage of director Tim Burton with the darker edges of the Alice In Wonderland story seems, on paper, to be an impressive match. And to a point, it is: Burton’s film explodes with colour and style, bringing a real sense of imagination to the classic Lewis Carroll stories. Alice In Wonderland isn’t perfect, though. It’s, at heart, far more conventional than you may be expecting, and the beefing up of the Mad Hatter’s role to accommodate the casting of Johnny Depp is problematic. That said, Depp’s performance is fine, even if it’s Helena Bonham-Carter who steals every scene she’s in. And Burton also wisely casts a strong supporting cast of British thespians, who don’t get enough screen time, but make the most of what they get. The end result, however, is a fun telling of an engaging story. And while Tim Burton’s take on Alice In Wonderland is far from the best filmed take on the source material, it’s nonetheless a solid family movie. It also looks stunning on Blu-ray. The colourful production design comes across wonderfully well, in vibrant 1080p, and the enveloping sound mix matches it too. And given how often the film is likely to be re-spun over the years, it’s easily the best way to own the film. --Jon Foster Review: Classic Film 🎥 - Lovely classical film, bought for my DVD collection, Johnny Depp is superb as the Mad Hatter 😃 Review: Lewis Caroll would have approved - Having read some of the negative reviews, admittedly with a pinch of salt, I was a little apprehensive when I sat down to watch this film. I need not have worried. What an excellent take on this classic story. I'm sorry, but Lewis Carroll would have heartily approved. His stories were ahead of their time, and different, to the point where, I hazard, many of those at the time of first publications probably thought this strange novel not worth the paper it was printed on. I say bravo to Mr Burton and the script writers. To have simply taken the original story and made a film from it, true to the last word would have been a mockery. We have many of those already. The twists and turns in the plot, and the growth of Alice, and the realisation who she is, was wonderful, suspenseful, and kept you wondering what was going to happen next. And Mr Depp, Ms Carter, and the cast in general are most stupendous. Watch this film with an open mind. Do not expect it to be faithful to the original. Oh, and I had the usual excellent service from desertcart and Indigo Starfish. First rate, chaps.

Alice's return to Wonderland
A new film version of Alice in Wonderland. But rather than film the works of Lewis Carroll as they were written, what we have here is basically a sequel to them, as nineteen year old Alice returns to the world of her childhood. The film establishes from the start that she's a free thinker and rather smart and prone to flights of fancy. And that her father doesn't mind that at all, even though it doesn't sit with the way women are supposed to behave in Britain of her time. But on the verge of adulthood she's unsure of herself and her future. Pressured into a proposal from a stuffy young aristocrat, a white rabbit runs by in the nick of time to lure her away and send her tumbling down a hole. None of which is familiar to her. Wonderland is a place in turmoil with a tyrannical and rather spoilt queen having seized power. The creatures of the place await their alice to come and save the day. But is this her? And can she do what is required? You can see from the beginning that this is going to be a 'be happy to be who you are' film script, but even something so obvious never really matters so much. I have never read the books so I can't comment on how it compares to the writing style of them, and the purists don't seem to be too happy with it. But event though this probably isn't director Tim Burton at his absolute best [he didn't write the script] there are more than enough incidental delights here to get by very nicely on. A great cast of character actors from both sides of the atlantic bring rise to their characters very well. Michael Sheen probsbly being the best, making the white rabbit a very timid and rather stuffy would be hero. The mad march hare acts like a certain groundskeeper from the Simpsons. Johnny Depp has stylish costumes and makeup and hair for the mad hatter, who slips between one personality when focusing on the here and now and another when remembering the past. Something doesn't quite gel about the character, but it's a fun performance. Although it's a pity Christopher Lee doesn't get more than a couple of lines as the Jabberwock. Wonderland itself looks like a pop up picture book, even when not seen in 3d. Mayee it's a bit inconsequential and maybe it's not on a par with the books, but it's a fun bit of fantasy entertainment and a real treat for the eyes at times. The dvd has the following set up options: Subtitles: English. Dutch. Languages: English. Dutch. Belgian. It's also English audio captioned. The disc begins with a few trailers that you can get past by clicking the next chapter button. Be aware that it uses a system called fast play which means that it plays trailers movie extras all in a row with no breaks unless you click on the main menu button. Fast play can then be accessed again from it, but it won't come back in at the same point as before. The only extras are three six minute long features; The Mad Hatter; All about the character Finding Alice: All about her character Effecting Wonderland: All about the rest of the production All are short bt pretty good, with behind the scenes clips and good contributions from cast and crew, not least a fair few from Johnny Depp. All in all, it's a good dvd package.

Stunningly Wonderful!
I have been a crazy Alice in Wonderland fan, Johnny Depp fan and Tim Burton fan for years so when I first heard this movie was being made I was elated!! I first heard about it whilst researching for my university dissertation on 'Alice' a couple of years ago. This film was well worth the long wait! Tim Burton's creations are always brilliant but this has been my favourite so far! It's a terrific take on the story of 'Alice'! I love it! Johnny Depp is outstanding as The Mad Hatter - is there anything he can't do?! Well, it would appear not. The 3D aspect of the film just made it all the more exciting - I wish it would stay at the cinema for longer because the 3D thing is nowhere near as good when you're at home. Absolutely amazing film and completely hilarious the whole way through!!

T'was twillig and the slithy toves........
Alice in Wonderland is a brilliant piece of dark literature that Walt Disney previously lightened up for younger, more delicate constitutions but this latest DVD about an older, but still as confused Alice presses the more mature viewers' buttons. Mia Wasikowsa portrays a vulnerable yet increasingly headstrong heroine perfectly, aided by several well known movie names such as Helena Bonham-Carter as the Red Queen (OFF with her head!!), Anne Hathaway as the White Queen who's arm movements throughout are very reminiscient of 60's psychedelia-type dance moves in slo-mo, Johnny Depp who lapses into a fair imitation of a Scottish accent when riled (about as good as his "Cockney" accent as Capt Jack Sparrow!?). There are partial CGI characters (Crispin Glover, Matt Lucas) as well as a bit of tweaking of the main cast from time to time too and lots of full CGI with some very recognisable voices, e.g. Stephen Fry as the Chesire Cat, Martin Sheen as the White Rabbit and Alan Rickman as the Caterpillar. The film is a typical Tim Burton affair, dark characters, unusual costumes, actors giving their all to bring a make-believe world to life very efficiently, a 104 minute (way too short!) departure from reality for anyone who has ever felt life takes itself too seriously.
