Liquitex 104016 BASICS Gesso Surface Prep Medium, White, 473 ml

I only took up art recently and after some fast track self learning I have started to collect different materials and came across gesso, which I had never heard of before. I am glad I found this one as it primes my canvasses perfectly. I have also used it to make a rextured base on a canvas and to transfer a picture on another. I intend on finding other uses for it.

A little thicker than I wanted but really good product.

Better than crafting quality gesso Give it a go

Drying really quick. I used on surface which one have printed letters already, did put two coats of gesso, but when it dried completely I could see these letters showing through it. I've been using paint brush so I could see stripes after. Well probably it depends what paint brush you are using.

What I expected it to be

This gesso is just what I was looking for. Originally I had bought a gesso from a craft brand I had never heard of, thinking to give it a try, BIG mistake. When I took the lid off the gesso, I thought I was looking at cottage cheese. The lumps of white gesso were separated from the liquid and refused to blend. Needless to say, I returned that gesso and bought Liquitex's gesso. Taking the seal off of my Liquitex gesso was a night and day difference from the previous gesso - thick, creamy paint that smoothly covered my canvases. I got exactly what I expected from a respected artist brand = quality. You get what you pay for but that being said, Liquitex's gesso had the same amount as the previous one I had ordered and $2 more. What an amazing deal and peace of mind, knowing that there's some quality control in place.

Goes on easily and evenly, dries quickly, adheres well, gives a nice toothiness to the surface so with a little sanding acrylic paint goes on well and smooth, works great on wood and canvas. Liquitex is a great brand and this is an awesome product for the price.
