The idea is actually brilliant, i dreaded cleaning out my canisters usually once every 2 months but it's been 8 months and my canister is still clean removing all hassle from tank maintenance. The two taps on the booster make maintenance really easy and it traps all heavy muck leaving my expensive filter media with clean water for super effective filtration I have noticed a drop in ammonia and nitrates since using these in 2 heavily sticked goldfish tanks the ultimate filter test is goldfish! They are quite fiddly to attach hoses too takes around 20 minutes and a sharp knife but the time saved long term and the obvious benefits in filtration and water quality far outweigh the set up time. If you want extra get a Fluval Edge Pre-Filter Sponge (or one similar with only one hole) and stick it on the intake pipe. **Q: Want to use this one as a pre-filter for mech. filtration before ef 1000-aps.is it easy to connect them?pipes? all the help is welcome, please.:)** A: It is very easy, just use the green tubing you get with the ef 1000. Eg turn the tap off to stop flow then disconnect from the unit or do you have to remove the pipe from the tap** A: The taps have threaded connection and you don't need to remove the pipe when cleaning is reqiured.
