Revolutionary cleaning
I have been tracking this item for some time and researched reviews including the top consumer magazine, where it was listed as a Best Buy in it's top 5 results. I held back on ordering for price reasons as it is a very expensive item and I had a bad experience with an upright Dyson many years ago. However, I am delighted with this vacuum so far (have been using for one week). It is very easy to put together and the instructions are clear. Although 20% charged on arrival I charged for a further 5 hours, as suggested and it was ready to go. There are a great assortment of tools - 2 floor heads, one mini turbo and 3 tools which I feel is a comprehensive selection. Only two tools can be stored in the docking station and it would have been nice for them all to be housed. However, this is a small matter. Suction power is good and the 40 minute charge is more than adequate for a whole (3-bedroom) house. I haven't had to use the turbo feature. Vacuuming is so much quicker without having to wrestle with leads and hoses and blow-back of air from my cylinder vacuum. The hand unit is well balanced. I was concerned by reviews that stated you had to keep the power button pressed during cleaning as my husband has arthritis and I thought this may become significant. However, it's more of a grip control than a button and quite light to activate which makes it much easier plus you don't have to do the whole house in one go. I found the hand unit brilliant on the stairs and it was easier to manoeuvre and clean thoroughly without leads and hoses to hinder and present a trip hazard. I will save money on bags and filters so overall it will probably be cheaper to run. Dyson recommend you wash the filters in cold water each month for optimum performance. Empting the dust canister is easy and the only time I've had to touch the dust is to remove the small residue which clings to the top of the canister. This hasn't been a problem to remove with a wooden coffee stirrer. I purchased this item from Amazon Marketplace at a much more reasonable price than the big suppliers were offering so I am completely delighted with the price, performance and delivery. Would happily recommend.

Powerful and easy to use
Cordless definitely seems to be the way of the future. In the same way that telephones are now mobile and even wireless charging has come about, I don’t know why I would plug a vacuum into the wall anymore and spend my life unplugging and plugging around the house! Dyson have released two versions of the V8 cordless, the absolute and the animal. The main difference seems to be that the absolute comes with an additional head which is a soft roller for cleaning hard floors. The absolute is also a tiny bit heavier, but I don’t think this is particularly noticeable on a day to day basis. It used to be that to get any kind of decent suction you needed a powerful motor, and there just wasn’t enough battery capacity to run one without plugging into the wall. The Dyson V8 though is just as powerful as my old vacuum so has no problems with day to day cleaning. The max mode lets you increase the power for a few minutes if there is something particularly difficult you’re trying to vacuum up, and it is ridiculously powerful, but I find it’s very rarely needed. The standard suction is enough for 99% of dirt/dust (until my cat knocks over a house plant or something…) Another great feature is that the vacuum shrinks down to a tiny handheld unit that is great for cleaning the stairs or the car. Really convenient if, like me, you don’t have a driveway so have to trek about 100m to the car. The vacuum is also really light as it doesn’t have a bulky body, so I have no problem carrying it for that distance. Overalls, a really useful vacuum that’s fit to use all round the house and beyond. FYI – the battery lasts for about 40 minutes before it needs charging, but it comes out of the box in max mode which will significantly reduce battery time. Unless you need max mode on, I’d recommend turning it off until required to preserve the battery. Specifications: Capacity: 0.54 litres Appropriate power: 115 aW Run time: 40 minutes Charge time: 5 hours Weight: 2.61kg The vacuum is certified asthma and allergy friendly.

Absolutely Totally Different Animal..........................
Yes " It Broke My Heart To Get Rid Of Our Old Dyson" just because it was so powerful. Dont get me wrong, nothing happened to it and it sucked today as well as it did at the start. I just fancied a wee upgrade because the lead of the old one was a pain, unplugging re-plugging again and getting extension cords out to the car, you know what I mean. Now this Baby is an "Absolutely Totally Different Animal lol" We dont mow ourselves with no cord lagging behind us, actually we still think the cord is behind us. Now the suction has drop from a 10 down to a 6 but its not running on power from the wall with a cord and people tend to forget that. It still does our house great and I really cannot fault it as yet. Now yes I bought the V8 when the new V10 has just arrived and that made the V8 drop in price and when the V12 arrives, I will buy the V10. Its simple logic " Buy a good hoover when its cheaper." With the "absolute" you get so many different attachments that all has there own uses. The icing on the cake for me is when I saw the box for the first time and saw it was shrink wrapped and I knew it was brand spanking new as some product come now with a bit of tape holding the box closed and your not 100% sure if its new or a second. Anyway This Dyson guy really knows what hes doing imo as before the two Dyson machines I have bought, we were going through hoovers at a rate of 10 in 20 years with cheap hoovers and thats the truth. SIMPLE, if your Looking, then you're Thinking and If I were you, I would start Buying. P.S For those of you that like to keep a clean car, man is this good for it. The motorized stair brush tool make short work of the carpet mats and the carpets and I was cleaning the clean with it with all the tools turning it off and on for over an hour and there was still 1 bar left on the charge. NO LEADS. As Janice would say in "Friends" OH MY GOD" its good.

Worth every penny, but not without niggles. Recommended
We have two big hairy dogs so cleaning is a continual activity and the Dyson V8 has made it soo much easier to keep the house clean. It is very effective and easy to use and manoeuvre. I also have a Dyson Animal Ball and we hardly ever use it! The V8 is not quite perfect but it is 85% there. I have heard rumours that they can be unreliable and only time will tell, but after 6 weeks of hard labour it is highly recommended. Pros Effective cleaning: I would say that the V8 is about 80 to 90% as effective as the Dyson Animal Ball. The only issue is that it struggles to pick up heavier and larger objects such as leaves and small pieces of gravel. Now if you don’t have dogs that drag such detritus into your house then it is perfectly adequate. Easy to use. I clean around 60 square metres of varied flooring (tiled, wood and carpet) every day in about 10 minutes. The V8 is very manoeuvrable and light to use and if required you can just use the general cleaning head on all floors. It is also easy to change the accessories and very light. Easy emptying Bin. I have had lots of Dyson cleaners and this is the first one that has a truly non-messy bin to empty. Reasonable sized Bin. Cleaning my dog house requires me to empty the bin about 3 or four times. The good news is unlike older ones it doesn’t seem to stop if you slightly over fill the bin. Good selection of heads: The three heads that are supplied are highly effective. The soft head for wood flooring is especially appreciated. Good battery life. I can clean my 60 square metres of floor twice a day and it still has charge left. Quiet compared to a mains based vacuum. Easy to change and clean filters. Cons The connection between the main body and the pipe feels a bit flimsy. I find the trigger a little too sensitive. It is easy to press it whilst emptying the bin. It seems to lose a significant amount of suction when using the crevice type tools and they aren’t that effective. This means it’s only adequate on stairs. I am about 6ft tall and I find the extension pipe a little short meaning I have to stoop when using it. This may be a problem for people of similar height with back issues. The wall based charger is a good design but you do have to be careful with it as it feels a little flimsy.

Performance that will amaze you
Performance that will amaze you, from a cordless vacuum cleaner with power levels that are truly astonishingly efficient, guaranteed to turn your vacuuming into a rewarding pleasure, rather than a chore. The purchase price is high, but then so is the value for money with every conceivable attachment designed to extend the capabilities into every possible cleaning task. you could possibly require. From the moment you take it out of the box and charge the battery pack to its full capacity, you can indulge in its outstanding performance potential, impressed with the dust and carpet debris it picks up so easily, leaving your carpets groomed to perfection. The power head designed for wooden floors is equally impressive with its gliding action, dancing easily with a simple turn of the wrist, allowing it to negotiate around furniture and under hard to reach areas. The powered smaller head is particularly useful on sofas and upholstery to achieve a dust fee groomed finish you will be proud of. Once you have used the cleaner, you will want to try it out on other areas in the home, with no loss at all in the delivered power, and a useful charge indicator provides a ready indicator of remaining power in the tool, which can be recharged so easily by stowing the cleaner in the docking station, ready for the next outing in search of dust. It is hard to leave it on the docking station as you are compelled to try it out again to convince yourself that there is no remaining dust to pick up. This is not a toy but honestly, you will find it compulsive to keep testing it out. To empty the clear cannister you simply hold the power unit over a suitable bin, pull up the red lever to allow the hinged base to spring open and discharge the contents without actually touching the waste contents. This has been very cleverly engineered to allow push button addition and removal of the tools supplied in order to encourage the user to attach the correct tool for the job it is required to carry out. A very satisfying purchase you will not regret.

I would recommend it.
EDIT: After 6 years, still working fine. Original battery. Run time about 30 minutes which is fine for me. All the attachments still going strong. I would say a slight decrease in suction, most likely because I'm not good at cleaning the filters as often as they recommend. Can't find genuine Dyson filters on Amo snd not sure how the fakes would perform, so will get direct from Dyson. £15 after 6 years seems worth it to me. Still recommend. On the first use, it sucked up my rug as it was so powerful and I had to switch off to release. Then I noticed the machine was supplied pre-set to max. When reset to standard it cleans just fine. Max is handy for getting the last bit of dust from my hard floors but not necessary for my carpets. To keep on top of the unrelenting fine grit from my yard that gets traipsed into the utility room and kitchen, I clean little and often so the charge capacity is fine for me. It may not last if I cleaned the whole house top to bottom in one go, but I'm afraid after cleaning one floor I tend to lose interest till another day anyway. Some reviewers commented on the hard-to-empty bin. I found it dead easy using the little red pull thing per the instructions rather than trying to undo it at the bottom. The bin doesn't hold much, but for short cleans every other day it's perfectly adequate. I can do kitchen, utility, dining room, family room (hard floors) and large sitting room (carpet) in 1 charge/1 bin. I have to empty twice when I include the cat beds, as they are full of fluff an other unidentifiable bits and bobs . I thought it would be heavy but it's so well balanced that it takes very little effort to use. Keeping the power button depressed is no problem - you grip with all 4 fingers and the forefinger just happens to hold the power button down. It's really easy to manoeuvre round bends, into corners, under kitchen units and under sitting-room chairs. As a handheld, it was brilliant for doing my dogleg staircase which was always a problem on the bend with the old Dyson ball. A handheld is better for doing the upholstery as well. I've had Dysons since they first came out (only 2 and one is still working!) and liked them apart from the noise (in a previous house with a tall echoey stair well I used ear defenders), but the V8 is much quieter. It didn't disturb the cats at all until I nudged their beds with it and they woke up and saw !hoover! and legged it. It seems to be well made as the traditional corded vacs. I don't think the lightness = flimsy. I've been using it for 2 weeks and I would recommend it.

Absolutely!
Absolutely love it. The day before I first used it I'd vacuumed with a Henry type vacuum, thought my carpet was clean. I gave it a quick going over with the Dyson and in less than two minutes had the equivalent of a full head of pet hair visible in the dust chamber. A pleasure to use and on opening it looked just like scrunched up wig, all the hair aligned. The carpet was visibly lighter and looked brand new! Very impressed. There is enough energy in the batteries to do the whole house (3 bedroom bungalow) with about 50% carpet/ 50% laminate floor coverings. With the the charger attached to the wall bracket under the stairs it's quick and easy to put away with the fully automatic charging system showing state of charge and shutting down when full. Should ensure long battery life. There are two filters that need washing once a month which will be soon. Looks straight forward, they're easy to take off the machine and better solution than paying for new filters and bags for the life of the machine. It's the most expensive appliance in the house but so far worth every penny.

Dyson batteries are an absolute disgrace!
I've purchased 2 of these hoovers, the Dyson V8 Absolute and the Dyson V8 Fluffy+ and both hoovers almost immediately after the 12 month 'warranty' expired the batteries went from 20 minutes cleaning (never 40 minutes as advertised) to now less than 5 minutes cleaning time! I'm really disappointed that James Dyson and Dyson hoovers won't invest time and money to develop a battery that will last at least 2 years and work to the times they advertise. The batteries Dyson supply for this hoover are absolutely appalling and should not be allowed to be sold. I've used Dyson hoovers since the DC01 (and I still have it) but switched brands because I felt Dyson lost its way through the years. However, the marketing was so good for this hoover I thought I would give it a go and was initially so impressed I bought a second V8 and gave it to my father. My partner and my father are men who don't do any housework and to get any man to do the vacuuming is a miracle, and the fact they both loved using their Dysons was brilliant to watch, especially since my mum and I wouldn't have to do the hoovering any more! Just over twelve months after buying these 2 vacuums they both depleted their batteries to the point where a 'full charge' would last no more than 5 minutes. Every time the hoover was used the batteries were exhausted and then charged before using again. This is always the best way to make sure any rechargeable battery will last longer. However, Dyson batteries for this hoover are a joke and should not be allowed to be sold. Any rechargeable battery that cannot provide at least 2 years service is unfair and now I have to buy a new battery every year just so these hoovers can be used for 20 minutes on full power. Overall the hoovers are good, especially for men as they seem to be addicted to using them but if James Dyson or anyone else from Dyson reads this review please spend some money on developing a decent battery and not provide these cheap alternatives which seem to be supplied as standard for Dyson hoovers!

Ottimo
