Can anybody explain what knifes are best for what kitchen tasks?

The Collection Includes: 8-inch chef's knife - basic chopping using heavy end and pivot from the point. great for parsley, cilantro, cabbage, lettuce etc. 7-inch Santoku knife - slicing and dicing, fruit such as pineapple, mango etc. also excellent for fresh fillets of fish, dicing or slicing. 8-inch slicing knife - for cooked roasts, slicing cooked meat or fish. 8-inch bread knife - allows you to slice softer items without squashing them down, slicing action, serrated edge so beware and use correctly. 5.5-inch utility knife - smaller version of chef's knife, for smaller amounts but same use. good for filleting fresh fish. 6-inch boning knife - stiff knife designed to bone legs of lamb, pork, cut out ham bones etc. Nice size for a boning knife and well designed to protect fingers/hand in tight tough places. 3.5-inch paring knife - peeling potatoes, apples, taking skin off fruit, curved small knife, very useful. (8) 4.5-inch steak knives - serrated knives for the dinner table to use for steak, pork, tougher protein that needs a sharper knife. 8-inch kitchen shears - heavy duty scissors for cutting through bone, cut through fish fins, trimming tough pieces of meat etc. 8-inch sharpener - keeps the edge sharp when using. Will need to have an edge to use this, have knives re edged every two years depending on use. Rubber-wood storage block - remember to clean this monthly!! a little dish soap and drop of bleach, drop! Good value for money, well made. Not world class, but excellent for day to day home use.

Are the knives already sharpened and ready to use?

Yes the knives are ready to go when they arrive, I would give them a wash before use. They do also come with a sharpening tool

What grade stainless steel are these?

Unsure!! But they are really good knives. I've had them a year. No signs of rusting and only just had to sharpen then for the first time recently. I'm a chef and they really are good quality for the home

Does the Bread knife work for carving to?

I have no idea as I never received the knives I only got the knife block.

Great set of knives for the price

I was needing a new set of kitchen knives because I love a bit of cooking and my old ones were getting a bit shabby. So I did a search on amazon and came across these ones and having a great experience with Amazon products in the past I settled for these bad boys. Straight out the box these knives are sharp and well balanced, great value for money in my opinion. I’ve no idea how other reviewers have managed to get stainless steel to rust but maybe theirs are different to mine. The bread knife included is excellent and the chef’s knife is great too, there is also about six steak knives which have come in handy also, you’ll also be able to keep them nice and sharp too as they come with a handy knife sharpener. All in all a great set, keep up the good work Amazon.

Durable look goid and sharp

Excellent value very sharp knives that look good .. i have had them a while now still look good easy to clean and feel solid not light and cheap .. nice handles to hold and as they are in a block good storage space .. The knife set contains more than i thought very happy ...

good value for money

great set for the price and looks great on counter top. very functional and scratch resistant. they are very easy to clean making it a perfect to- go knife set for when in a rush. the array of sizes means it can be used for everything and been proved to be quite durable. although the did come quite blunt, luckily it does come with a sharpener however it wiuld be more convenient if they did not come blunt.

Lovely knife set !

These knives are good. I deliberately left it a while before I did my review. They are sturdy and strong. Still just like new. They look the part in the kitchen and are comfortable to handle and use. There is no evidence of any wear or tear and the handles are still looking brand new !
