I've found that it tends to turn the brilliant white into a more off white/antique white. Wouldn't recommend if you wanted to keep the brilliant white look. Rustoleum do a polyurethane finishing varnish that comes out a little clearer I think

What consistently is this wax please.. is it like firm boot polish or like cottage cheese

Really it's in between depending on the weather - cottage cheese in the summer, firm boot polish in the winter!

Can this wax be used over normal emulsion paint?

Yes, I did use it over emulsion in pine. I suspect it needs a couple of coats. I wanted a very subtle, protective layer.
