Buy 101 Projects for Your Porsche Boxster (Motorbooks Workshop) Illustrated by Dempsey, Mr. Wayne R. (ISBN: 9780760335543) from desertcart's Book Store. Everyday low prices and free delivery on eligible orders. Review: The 'MUST HAVE' book for any Boxster owner - This is the must have book for any Boxster owner that intends to do work on the car themselves. You cannot get a 'Haynes' manual for the Boxster and the only alternatives is a VERY expensive manual (£100+) or one of the CD types you can get from auction sites. I initially bought one of those and it was little more than a parts catalogue with exploded views of the various parts of the car. I have a 2003 'S' and have made many visits to the various on line forums to sort out the little worries and issues that you have to expect when owning one of these types of cars. Whenever I have looked a pelican parts or similar, this book would be quoted and showed the really clear, COLOUR, pictures with clear descriptions, step by step directions and arrows showing the various points you need to look at. It's written in plain English at a level that keen amateurs will understand and gives you confidence to tackle the jobs that maybe you wouldn't have before. It shows each project with a panel at the beginning showing the level of expertise needed, the time it will take and the cost. It also shows the benefit of each project and what, if any, additional mods or additional work you can do while you are 'in there'. Don't think this is about messing about with your car, souping it up or turning it in to some kind of racing car, it's not. These are the kind of jobs you would be likely to reach for the Haynes manual to do in any case for the normal jobs you'd want to do just to keep your Porsche in top order. If you own a Porsche and have had it serviced at a main dealer, you'll know they perform a top to toe check and advise you on all the jobs they think you may want to consider on your car. An example of this is the drive belt, Porsche wanted £90 to change it but using this book, buying an OEQ (Original Equipment Quality) belt for £12.50, I did it in 30 mins EASILY, following the clear simple instructions in the book. When you consider I bought this book for around the same price as the belt, I saved £65 on that one job alone! The book is quality throughout and is far superior to anything else out there for these cars. I'm sure that if, like me, you own an older Boxster and cannot afford to spend thousands sending it of to the dealer but don't want to entrust it to some multiple chain with spotty 'technicians' having a go at it, or a backstreet garage who've never seen one on the ramp before, then this gives you an excellent alternative and allows you to know what you are doing. Review: Helpful book - Excellent book, great insight into various jobs, will be using on my Cayman

Great book, but not the only one you wil need....
This book promises loads, but delivers great value, but not in the way you expected. The book presents many tasks on the boxster, each as a project. The information within each project is typically all you would need if you were an experience mechanic or someone who does all their own car maintenance, but if you are a beginner, this is no workshop manual so buy a Bentley manual instead! However, this is a great book to read through and get to know the boxster - and get an insight into the various tasks. Like I said - if you are a real novice, then this probably wont give you enough to do the job.

Covers many common issues
Covers many common issues , with good quality photos and superimposed colour arrows to point at the parts you need to take notice of . Can be a little vague in places, plus some of the Projects are a little beyond the people I would expect to buy this book , such as replacing a Boxster engine with a 911. Otherwise very useful if you are not familiar with this Porsche model ( Boxster / Cayman )

Essential for 986/987 Porsche Owners
An excellent addition to a Porsche owners tool kit with helpful explanation and pictures (mainly of work on 986's) and originates from the USA and so project costs are in USD. The book covers simple to very difficult projects to which most readers will be able to relate, or like me, you just want to understand a little more about your car. Recommended.

Great book with lots of information not availble elsewhere. I have a pretty decent workshop and have always worked on my own cars (I own & restored several vintage cars and motorcycles). When I began considering the purchase of my 2005 Boxster I was somewhat apprehensive due to the lack of information available outside the official Porsche channel. The thought of being at the mercy of my local dealer sent chills up my spine. In fact, this thought greatly delayed my purchase of what turned out to be a great car. With this book, I am happy to say this situation has changed. This manual goes a long way in taking the mystery out of working on your own Porsche. It is very well organized with clear text and many great photos and tips. I am still reading through it all but already the car looks much less complex to me and my mind is more at ease in terms of what I can do myself to keep ownership costs reasonable. I also like that the author points out known problems with the cars (problems Porsche will not admit to) and solutions available in the aftermarket. Engine design flaws and failure modes are discussed (such as the itermediate shaft bearing failure problem) and the models most affected are identified. I really enjoyed reading the various innovative solutions people have come up with. Photos of various "shop made" tools were also helpful. An example is the the cam shaft holder tool that locks the cam shaft in place within the head when the cam cover is removed. Many owners/enthusiasts of sports cars enjoy being able work on their own cars. Why does Porsche (of all companies) not get this? Cheers to the author (an MIT Engineer)for a job well done! BTW, there are some very good boxter engine rebuild videos on utube... again great to see the information getting out on these cars.
