It delivers consistent power without relying on camera batteries, so I no longer worry about battery changes in the middle of a shoot. Bought this to keep my camera powered for long periods of time. Functions perfectly for that purpose. I haven't had any overheating issues using this in my camera. Fits nicely into camera and slides back out easily. Perfect for vodcasting or video calls etc.

I am an audio guru but am an illiterate video user. I stumble my way through. I did not know that the battery door on a Canon EOS 7D needs to be closed before it will operate with any dummy battery. Thank God for Google. I removed the rubber grommet and ran the cable out of the battery comparment so I could close the door. Bingo, worked great.

This device fits into the battery slot of my Nikon Z6, and powers it on. However, after 30 minutes to one hour, the camera turns off. The battery level usually shows as 3/4, and doesn’t lower, even before it turns off. When it turns off, I can make it work again by turning the camera off, unplugging the power supply from the wall outlet, taking the battery out of the camera (I just unplug the barrel jack connecting the dummy battery to the power supply), waiting a minute, and repeating those steps in reverse. This usually fixes it, but the camera turns off, which isn’t great for timelapses or videos. I can also put a real battery in the camera while waiting for the dummy battery to work again. A genuine Nikon dummy would probably work, although I haven’t tried one because it’s quite expensive.

I have 2 Nikon Z30s that I use mainly for recording YouTube videos and teaching over Zoom. The Z30, as well as other Nikon, Sony, Canon, and similar cameras, are all known to overheat when using the standard battery while recording video. When they overheat they stop. This can often happen after only 30 minutes! That's really not acceptable from what is supposed to be "pro" gear. There's a notch in the battery compartment door where the dummy battery cord can go through, so it seems Nikon knows about this problem and knows people will use a dummy battery. I don't know why these companies don't address this issue. The dummy battery does 2 things. First, it doesn't get hot like an actual battery, which helps keep the whole camera cooler and working. Second, it allows you to power the camera through a standard AC plug and avoid having your battery run down in the middle of recording. You can get cooling fans that attach to the back of the camera, but they can be noisy and also run out of power. This is a much better setup, especially in a studio situation.
