I have noticed that when I use it to break up the ice in the ice bin of our freezer, many times my finger will hit the ice and that hurts. As a result I have to hold it just between my thumb and fingers. It had 2 per pack so I gave 1 to our adult child. I only needed 1. They seem sturdy enough and the ice pick is certainly thick enough to be sturdy.
