It would appear that ink can grow old and in this case the new ink worked better than the original. The pen requires less pressure to get the ink down. This fit my Parker Jotter pen just fine. The new ink seems to go down to paper easier than old ink. Ink pens are nice because they are more conventional/widespread than fountain pens and the ink, being oil based, is not prone to the affects of water. A cheap/free plastic pen may work well too. May be hard to justify a replacement cartridge but a quality pen may be less prone to leakage/skipping etc if that's important to you.
