Six years and running strong…
I purchased this in August 2018 and it is still as reliable today as the day I purchased it. I mainly use it to play audio book CDs from the local library, but I have also burned DVD and CD backups and even watched a few older DVDs we bought for almost nothing. It’s fast to read, does a really good job for the 8x write, not a single coaster that I can recall, but it has been six years so not 100%, but recent memory I have had zero issues. It’s a great value, small and portable, and works via USB3.0+ perfectly. I use VLC for files I need to view, and Exact Audio Copy on Windows Pro 11 (it worked well on 10 Pro too) and the drive excels. After six years thought I’d update my review and let everyone know that this Toshiba drive is a rockstar. Love and recommend it. Note: I have not tried it with FreeBSD or Linux. I think I did when I first got it, but I can’t remember that far back on if it worked or not. Mileage on those OSes may vary.

Plug and Play
I've only used this the one time. The CD drive on my laptop stopped working sometime in the last year (probably due to win 10). I tried all the fixes I could find online and when all those were exhausted it was time to move on to an external drive. I'm only giving this 4 stars simply because I've not fully tested or used it, but so far it's working as I expect- plug and play, was able to install the software I had on disc. The USB cord is rather short, but it's not like your going to be walking around with the laptop while your using the drive - but something to consider. I have not tried to play any movies or music with this drive. I will update this review after I've had more time with it.

Works as expected
No complaints. Has worked as long as I've had it. I will note that I only use it occasionally, but considering my laptop didn't come with a CD/DVD/etc. drive, something like this was a must for me to watch DVDs from the library. Happy with my purchase. Make sure to put it on a level surface before using. I like the feature that holds the cable out of the way when not in use. Be aware that the cable needs to unbend to plug it in, and this may not be everyone's favorite, but it's been fine with me. Cable is kinda short. But it's a portable design, so I guess that's a trade off.

Doesn't work with iTunes
This drive was unable to burn a playlist from iTunes. This was confirmed by the seller who told me to use VLC instead. It also tried to reformat a disc that had a CT scan on it. That disc worked fine in a different drive. When loading a disc, this drive would often pop back open, so that I had to reclose it several times before it would actually recognize and read the disc. It did work okay ripping mp3 files using Windows Media Player and for loading software. The vendor did approve a return, but it wasn't worth the trouble since they wanted me to pay return shipping. I just bought an LG brand DVD drive which is working great and threw this one in the garbage.

Easy to Use
I didn't realize computers aren't made with disc drives anymore so I bought this in a pinch. It's easy to use, just plug it in and load your disc. You can use it to burn cd's or download photos or watch a DVD. I like this one also bc it's small and sleek, I can tuck it away easily when I'm finished using it.

Works great
The USB DVD player is easy to use and works really well. My computer did not have a DVD player and I needed that function for getting pictures stored on disk as well as watch movies so I decided to buy this product. It has worked great for all my needs and is small and easy to store. The only thing is that you need an app on your computer in order to watch movies. I use VLC media player.

Not happy that it doesn't upload an use is own software.
Should be automatically able to use but it doesn't have a software option. Like is small like it's portable. Not happy it's an ordeal to start a movie. Once a movie does start it works fine. Just not easy to plug an play and I find it obnoxious that such a basic obvious thing isn't included in it's design. Whatever!
