Very sturdy, I actually have two of these, currently using it to hold two mini PCs and an Ethernet switch for a home lab, as part of a 2U rack that I have mounted on the wall, and then also holding miscellanous devices that are not rack-mountable, such as cable modem and NAS. It is not as deep as the rack unit which is nice so cables can fit behind it to go up or down in the rack.

Could have purchased something cheaper, but it would probably not meet my expectations from the reviews I read. This met my expectations and functions perfectly. Easy to install, all installation parts are included, and the quality control is good.

This thing is rigid and shipped without any imperfections. They also include the necessary hardware to mount it, making installation a breeze.

Perfect for my rack.

This is a solidly built shelf; it claims to support 44lb/20kg and I'm sure you could put more on it with no ill effects. Part of this sturdiness owes itself to the rolled lip that is present on both the back and front of the shelf. As other reviewers have mentioned, this lip reduces the overall available height for installable equipment quite a bit. In a normal installation (putting this in a 1U space) you have about 1 3/8" (35mm) for equipment, since the shelf takes up the lower 3/8" of the space. If the things you want to put on the shelf are taller than that, you'll need to take up extra rack space above the shelf. Maximum available width for equipment is a little over 17 1/16", but if you have a single item that wide then just attach rack ears to it rather than using a shelf. In a space-unconstrained environment you could also mount this upside-down and use the aforementioned lip to stop things sliding backward or forward off the shelf; a device 6 3/8" deep could sit between the back and front lip. Why so little, given that this shelf is listed as 7" deep? Well, it's more like 6 3/4" deep. All in all, this is a great rack shelf. It shipped in its retail-ish box with no extra packaging, so I can understand how some people had theirs arrive damaged (mine was fine). In my case I wanted to put exactly 1U height equipment on it, but could afford extra space above it. Your use case may vary, so be aware of the 1 3/8" height / 6 3/4" depth / 17 1/16" width that's available for you to install things. One other note: this ships with 4 caged nuts, plastic washers and rack screws and they are all M6 size. If your other equipment is using imperial sizes, just put these aside.

This rack shelf worked well to mount our home audio system up out of the way. I've used StarTech several times in the past and their products are always sturdy and well built. This 1U shelf is no exception. A bit pricey but significantly less than the big-name brands like APC.

It's a shelf. It works but is overpriced in my opinion. Either you need a shelf or you don't.

Works as expected. Solid build quality and excellent for appliances that emit lots of heat. Placing directly on the ground with a switch, modem, wifi AP, PSU connected caused me to shock when touching the unit. So I cut 2 pieces of wood that I had laying around and placed the unit on it. No shocking anymore. Have not connected the grounding wire yet - but all good so far.

Very happy with the speed of service - shelf arrived within a few days. Haven't installed it yet, but the shelf seems pretty solid and heavy duty - no cheap thin sheet metal - very happy with everything.

This shelf provides a great way to support my unrackable network equipment. It is sturdy and can be flipped to get a little ledge so things don't slip off. Good product, does what it is supposed to do.
