A MUST read for slow readers
I have a pair of developmentally delayed twins. They are age 7 3/4 and I tried reading the full, unabridged version of the Wizard of Oz to them; it was too wordy and too long. Then, we read this abridged version and they loved it! the brevity of the chapters keeps the plot going for their short attention span. The bonus is that we got to watch the movie after we finished the book as a reinforcer for what they read and now they really love the Wizard of Oz! One chose to do his last book report in 2nd grade on this book. Both ask to watch the movie every weekend; we have watched it now 4 times. I have to finish another Stepping Stones Classic so we can watch that movie. We are working on the Three Musketeers.

Not a too short nor too long version of the story
I bought it to read to my 4 year old during bed time, so I thought it was a short story. Turns out this is “too long” for his age - it has chapters and 100 pages - so it doesn’t work for us as he still likes books that we can start and finish in one sitting. I’ll keep the book though, as it may be nice for when he’s older and able to read. The inner pages have some black and white illustrations, very well made and placed. It’s a great version of the story, but not the longest version I believe.

Perfect for a beginning reader
Excellent choice for my early reader. She was excited to have a version of this story that she can read.

Exquisite copy
This is an exquisite copy of a classic that should be read far more critically than the author's own insistence that it was written just for fun, and just for the entertainment of children, absent of any depth. The story is in fact a compelling allegory on where true power lies, and on the ultimate failure of glittering imperialism/wealth to ever replace home, no matter how gray and simple home is. The imagination, the intellect, and "heart," and courage all lie within--where the journey begins and ends.

Highly recommend
My third grader, who is a low to average reader is able to read and enjoy the classics due to the readability level of this series. I would highly recommend them. They are challenging chapter books that stay true to the original stories.
