After researching brands and ukuleles we settled on the Kala KA-PWC Pacific Walnut Concert Ukulele Bundle with Hard Case, Tuner, etc. I thought this was a very good value. It did not disappoint. Shopped separately this would have cost more. The Ukulele plays wonderful and sounds great - we purchased the "concert" size ukuleles. The hard case and tuner are a very good quality and the case will protect the instrument for its life. Only downside is we no longer have a dvd player on which to watch the dvd that is included for instructions. So we are streaming instructions from various YouTube instructional videos. Note that Austin Bazaar does have YouTube videos available. I don't give a lot of 5 stars review's, but this one is worth it.There is an amazing number of 4-5 star ukes on Amazon, in the $50 range. I'm sure they make their buyer's happy, however, they are toys. I wanted a REAL uke that was durable and playable.I decided to spend a bit more and bought the $125 Enya tenor. It broke within a week and was unserviceable. It got returned!! I took my credit, plus a few more dollars to buy the Kala. I am not disappoint!Technically, it's still a beginners ukuele, but its on the higher end. It blows away the $50-$100 instruments. It has great range and a warm sound. The entire fret board is playable, unlike the cheap models. It comes strung in high G, with a decent set of easy to play strings. I re-strung it with low g, D'Addario fluorocarbons, and the sound is beautiful. They are soft, easy to play, with no buzzing. Most importantly, it holds it tune like a legitimate instrument should.I know it's on the expensive side, but it looks awesome, sounds incredible and is a joy to play.
