The book clearly lays out Meghan as a social climber, which would not have been so terrible if not accompanied by the completely transactional nature of her personal and professional relationships. And her misunderstanding of the role of the monarchy. Meghan comes off as ambitious, calculating but also intelligent and straightforward in her ambitions - to profit off her Duchess title and global fame. And who could blame her! All their “charitable” causes are either a front to profit, or to gain positive press as humanitarians peddling the most recent social cause.Harry on the other hand seems to be a petulant and deeply disturbed Prince, whose image the Palace kept a tight rein on, but it’s now clearly unravelling. Events in the book show how he is the cause of the rift between Thomas Markle and his daughter. It’s also evident he has no identity outside of his personal trauma with his mother and now the royal family. He definitely married up.Tom Bower is fairly critical of Charles, Andrew and William anytime they are mentioned, which is sort of refreshing to read. What I also enjoyed was a look into the actual men and women in grey suits. The book calls out a lot of the key palace courtiers by name, along with their motivations, and seemingly a lot of them were treated horribly by Harry & Meghan and constantly put in untenable situations.I would recommend this book for both royal watchers and non royal watchers. The sheer delusion of a rich prince and princess, and what constitutes misinformation and (image) protection in their lives is both staggering and entertaining to read.
