As you can imagine I use a lot of different tools and several different meters. I have testing meters worth $1000+. I must say that this meter met and exceeded my expectations! Other than data logging, this meter has it all! I can use this meter instead of my $1000 meters 90% of the time. I highly recommend this to anyone. I would also recommend purchasing a meter pouch or carry bag though 😁 Review: Okay for the Price - The meter is well-equipped for a wide range of measurements, including some that I find odd on a multi-meter. I've never once had my hands in an electric panel and at the same time wondered what the water temperature was. But too many is better than not enough, so high marks for the range of measurements. I tested this against another meter that cost a little over double of this one. The readings were not identical, but certainly within an acceptable range. The one thing this meter has that the other one doesn't is a non contact voltage sensor. It's handy to see if a wire is live just by putting the end of the meter near the wire. When it detects voltage, it beeps and the green lights activate, which turn up to red as it gets closer to the wire. However, I have a stand-alone non contact voltage sensor, and it's much quicker to detect live wires. For example, I can waive it over a light switch to see if the circuit is live, and it will beep. It works the same for a plug. The one built into this meter does a fine job when you can actually get to the wire, but waiving it in front of a switch doesn't work. Even touching again a live plug barely works. It's a nice touch to add it, especially if you have direct access to the wire itself, but it's not as sensitive as a stand alone sensor. I have two major issues with the meter, which is why I took off two stars. The first problem is the probes. They work fine if you're testing a battery or using it to check for continuity, but most of what I do with these meters requires me to stab outlets. The tips on the probes absolutely forbid testing an outlet. In fact, when running the tests, I used the probes from another meter because I couldn't make use of these probes with the approximately 1/8" metal tip that quickly transfers to wide plastic. To me, it makes this meter a non-starter. To be clear, many other meters I've checked out since I got this one have the same probes. They're not uncommon, they just don't work for me. The other issue is that it's not auto-ranging. More sophisticated meters that can run all the same tests have vastly less positions to worry about on the dial. I can live without auto-range, but for a meter that offers this many functions, it seems like it would be automatically included. All in all, for the price, it's a good meter that returns test results virtually the same as a meter worth over twice as much. Yet with those probes, I would pass. If you can work with the included probes, I think you'll find it can run just about every test you want to run (and some you don't). UPDATE: The seller sent me a picture, which I attached to this review, that shows the plastic tips that I hated so much can be removed. This wasn't shown in the instruction booklet. I tried removing the tips originally, but I was concentrating on the wrong area. Note that this meter also comes with clips that attach to the probes AFTER the plastic caps are removed, making them useful on occasion. I've changed from three to four stars now that I know they can be removed (and are currently sitting in my trash).

Great multimeter
After years of using cheap, disposable multimeters and borrowing my father-in-law’s fluke, I needed to get a nice one of my own. I’ve been really impressed with the build quality and how easy this one is to use. Directions were also very nice and learned some stuff about various functions that I hadn’t used before.

Nice unit, so many nice touches, better than other models I’ve tried
This Reenwee ZT-980 digital multimeter is better than other models I’ve tried. Unlike models that require you to go through menus or press a lot of buttons to get the functions you want, this model has a rotary dial that lets you easily select from 27 different functions. In fact, this unit only has 4 buttons. I have an old Tandy analog multimeter I bought at Radio Shack in the 70s that has a similar rotary dial that I just love but that one finally bit the dust and this is a good replacement. The Reenwee ZT-980 has a nice bright backlight that you can turn on / off and auto shuts off in 2 minutes to maximize battery life. It also has an auto power off after 15 minutes (it warns you 1 minute with 5 beeps before powering down). Plus, you can disable the auto power of, if you’d rather. Unfortunately, the auto off on the backlight cannot be disabled. The lettering on the dial / buttons is large enough for me to easily read with my not-so-great vision. The display shows AC or DC based on whether or not the dial is on an AC or DC voltage setting. The manual is misprinted. It lists the AC voltage settings as DC (see pic). It also lists the 6mA current setting as DC only (it's AC/DC). Fortunately, the dial on the meter is correct. The unit is lightweight (12 oz without batteries) and fits nicely in my hand. It includes a built-in stand. It uses (3) AA batteries and requires a screwdriver to change the batteries. (pretty typical) I found the replacement of the batteries to be a little awkward as the stand slides into the battery compartment door and the small screw on the battery door is not attached with a screw lock. Don't drop the screw on the job site! The unit includes a temperature probe and alligator clips attachments for the probes. Lots of cool features (read the sales page). Overall, I’m taking away a star for the battery door / stand and the inability to disable the auto shutoff of the backlight. Otherwise, I’m very pleased with the design and function of this Reenwee ZT-980 digital multimeter. As the parent of kiddos with autism, there are causes near and dear to my heart. Straight forward and accurate. Gets the job done.
This is a great meter with a dial selector that permits quick selections and zero confusion. However, I have 40 years or so of experience in using just about all functions of meters like this on a regular basis. But, even for a novice, this is still a great tool with an easy to follow user manual. I do take into account other user experiences before I order something, and did not find anything wrong with this meter whatsoever. - Probes: There was some confusion about these. The probes do have removable caps that will expose more than just the pointy tip. They do not pull off with finger strength alone. - Probe quality is decent and are 36" long. - Accuracy: When playing with this, I checked it against my other meters and this was quite consistent with the others. Household AC voltages, household batteries, larger DC batteries, a number of resistors, etc. all tested out fine. - The NCV feature works very well - lots of feedback in both color and sound, which I like when using tools like this in dark attics. - I tested the included temp sensor on items inside my fridge and an A/C vent. It seemed reasonably accurate. - Uses 3 AA batteries (included) however when taking the protective wrap off the batteries, the battery label itself wanted to peel away as well. Always worried about corrosion issues from cheap batteries, I chucked them and installed name brand ones. - Another included handy accessory is the alligator clip to probe end adapters. Very useful. - Stands on meters like this are always handy, and this one works well. Back of meter also has a keyhole slot for hanging. - Display was clear and visible from many angles. - Built in flashlight not bright, but functional. - Probe holders on back of case. All in all, a very versatile meter at a good price. If newer to multi meters or just wanting upgrade to something decent over the freebie ones given out at tool discount stores, this is a very good choice and won’t hurt the pocket book the way the expensive name brand ones will. Very happy with this meter.

Works well...this user missing a little info.
Wanted a multimeter that could measure batteries, and be useful for other applications. This unit does that, and much more, minus one important ability in a way I was used to. Seems very sturdy, included batteries, came with a protective bumper installed. Also included some probes, with sturdy feeling cables, alligator clips, a temperature sensor cable. For the price, it felt well made, can measure LOTS of things, and the accessories are useful. Measures batteries like a champ, temperature measurement kind of cool, the proximity power setting a useful feature - wave it in front of an outlet and it tells you if it's live or not. Criticisms: info. missing in the little manual. Most things like this identify each and every part clearly, sometimes with too much detail (e.g. two #3 screws, etc. with detailed pictures). This one says "remove the screw to insert batteries", but I had to search just to find that. This one could use some more detail. Some of the descriptions are a little clumsy, and for the large amount of measurements this thing can do, a little more attention to a clear manual for novice users would be helpful. I'm far from an electrician or engineer, but I'm familiar with some basic terminology and principles. This manual refers to some things I plain old don't recognize (like "6000 counts"). Maybe that' is familiar to someone that is more experienced or knowledgeable than me, but I can only guess at it's meaning or relevance. Could be a personal problem, I just don't know. One thing it won't do - test an outlet, the probes will not fit. As mentioned, it will identify a live outlet, but it won't measure the voltage or anything else on a regular household outlet, the probes won't fit - which may be enough information for some users. It will measure bare wires, or other power flow scenarios - many more that I don't even understand. Given the cables, clips, temperature probe, a very small accessory bag would be helpful. I'm guaranteed to lose track of something other than the main cables because to carry them all around in your hands when only using one function is a bit of a hassle and is exactly how I lose little items. Overall, feels and performs like a solid unit, can be used for a wide variety of applications. It just could use some accessory help and a better user's manual for us "not-so-educated about all the stuff it measures" users.

Excellent Value. Easy to Set The Measurement To Be Made. Very Nice Test Probes. Durable
My major uses of a multimeter are for checking alternator and battery voltages on my pickup truck, analyzing voltage at various points in the vehicle wiring and seeking parasitic drains that can run down a battery when vehicle is parked and engine is off. This meter performed all of these functions quite well. I also use the meter for troubleshooting small appliances, landscaping lights and wiring, measuring AC voltage on house electrical system. All of these tasks it performs well. The test probes are very well made and sturdy and flexible and adaptable. I can affix the provided alligator clips by simply pressing them onto the probes. The probe tip engages a small metal socket inside the housing of the alligator clip. I can remove the insulator at the probe tip to expose around 3/4 inch of small diameter probe to allow entry into small openings such as a 110v wall socket. To top it off, this multimeter comes with a thermocouple that can measure minus 20 to 1000 degrees celsius or read in equivalent degrees fahrenheit. Could come in handy when repairing coffee makers, electric woks, etc. The little guide booklet that accompanies the meter has an error on page 7. A range of five voltages from 750V down to 600mV read as DC Voltage in the table. Should be AC voltage. I changed my booklet accordingly. I enjoy having the large digital display, the excellent green backlight, the handy (dim as it is) little LED "flashlight", and the non-contact voltage sensor. I placed the dial on NCV and was able to determine presence of voltage at electrical sockets and switches. Very handy for a quick safety check. Came wirh 3 fresh AA batteries. The box is sturdy and useful for storing the meter and the probe accessories. I have fun watching YouTube videos of pro technicians and amateurs demonstrating the use of this type of multimeter. Made me a better automotive battery and alternator diagnostician.

Works fine for the casual DIY'er that I am
What I like: Batteries included. Multiple lead sets provided. Myriad measurement settings apt to satisfy the hobbyist or DIYer. What could be better: It would have been nice to have a tool pouch to keep everything together. I'm not an electronics expert or electrical engineer. Just a homeowner DIY'er who has an occasional need to test batteries, verify continuity, pilot the Enterprise (while dreaming, anyway). For my needs, I'm not wanting or expecting exacting precision and am therefore not able to report variances of reported metrics against actual. Like, if I even knew who to do that. I CAN tell you that, when I removed the AAA alkaline batteries from my nearby wireless keyboard and mouse, the multimeter dutifully reported available charge for each battery at or near 1.48 volts. Accurate? Yeah, probably. Repeatable? I guess, if I had the gumption to get out another multimeter. The unit's case feels substantial enough that it is likely to survive the occasional bumps common with someone who bumbles, like me. Screen is legible, settings make sense, owner's manual is descriptive and clear enough for me to find the setting that I will need. The cardboard box is beefy enough that the unit and its accessories can all be stored in one package, ready to go. I kindof wish some sort of soft bag with cinch-up string was included, but just a minor quibble, really. The box works fine. So, I'll happily advise Scotty on dilithium crystal remaining capacity at next dream cycle...and can also tell my wife, the next day, to pick up more AAA batteries next trip cuz my kybord neds nw ons.
