Will this log harm my betta? It smells like chemicals and the paint won't stop coming off. I'm too nervous to put it in the tank.

I got the two pack and have been soaking them for about three weeks now. They still smell like chemicals and they did flake off a bunch of black paint from the inside of them. I'm returning one of them and I'm going to continue to soak the other one as I really do like the concept and would love to use this in my tank but not until the chemical smell stops first. There was also a kinda like rainbow across the water quite a few times kinda like when car oil or gasoline is on water. So I've been changing out the soaking water almost every day. If you get one of these make sure to soak it for way longer than the 1-2 days as suggested!

what type of material is under the paint ? any long time user not have paint peel ? thanks

I ordered mine mid July 2015 and Sam - my Betta - has been using it since. No paint peel at this time. The log itself looks to be made of plastic polymer of some kind, and I don't think it's painted per se. Sam loves his log btw. Probably the most used item in the tank.

I bought this recently and after reading some of the reviews I'm scared to actually put it in my betta tank. Should I return it or just brave it??

I've personally had no issues with mine. My betta loved it from the moment I put it in his tank, it's one of his favorite hangout spots! Before putting it in his tank I just rinsed it off with cold water and let it air dry.

Everyone loves this floating log

I bought the Zoo Med floating log for my Betta, but it quickly became the most popular spot in the tank. Both my Betta and my mystery snail take turns squeezing inside, and sometimes they even try to claim it at the same time. The opening is just the right size for small fish, and the top feeder hole turns it into a little floating buffet — food stays contained, and my shrimps, snail and betta know exactly where to find it. It’s held up well so far and stays afloat without any issues. I’m honestly considering getting a second one so they don’t have to compete for it.

Nice item, my betta seems to love it.

So far, so good. My betta seems to really love this log for a hiding spot. It didn't take any time for him to look up through the feeding hole to start watching for food! Update: This product does peel off and may be getting junk in my betta's tank.

Love this floating log- so does my Beta
