Plants love it. No longer need root tabs!
There is an issue with this soil leaching ammonia and clouding the water for a few days to weeks, but that isn't a problem if you are doing a fish less cycle. I think this would work well in place of ammonia to cycle a tank. My tank was already cycled, and it caused nitrates to skyrocket. Testing the water more frequently & performing water changes will prevent any harm to fish. Plants are healthy and vibrant in color. I plan on purchasing again and would recommend to anyone looking to keep a planted tank.

Quality Product, Incredible Customer Service.
This product is great. I had issues with my product and the seller resolved it as quickly as possible. I’m thoroughly impressed and happy with this seller and my purchase. ADA Aquasoil is a fantastic planted substrate. I’ve tried it with two low tech tanks where the substrate is capped with some pool filter sand, a 5g and 29g(before and after images provided), and the plants flourished.

Stop buying cheaper products and just buy this and never look back.
Plants have never looked better. Best substate ever used. I have gone from capped soil, olive knott aqua soil, up aqua. I've tried a bunch. Nothing compared to ada amazonia. I was hesitant to spend the money on it for a very long time. I regret that. I can grow anything in this substate and see noticable differences from when I had them growing in another substate. I've seen new color and growth in all plants since using this. Stop buying cheap stuff and hoping for the best. I spent 2 years or so avoiding buying this because of price. You will not be upset. You will see faster growth, faster spread of carpet plants and richer color.

This soil has remained my number one when it comes to plant growth. While it does break down over time, I have used 1 bag of this soil for almost 10 years. Even after it breaks down you can mix it with other subrastates to get it to the consistency you'd like. Usually I mix the old soil with sand and gravel and it's continued to grow plants for me. It's worth the extra cost if you are looking for explosive growth in your planted tank.

i really like it. had a hard time doing an initial ...
now that the parameters are stable, i really like it. had a hard time doing an initial fishless nitrogen cycle as the ammonia spike was tremendous. the cycle just couldn't get started. ended up changing tank water daily for at least 4 times before the ammonia spike started to lower. at this point, i increased the water temp to 78 deg, increased circulation of water with a water pump and added dr tim's nitrobacteria. finally completed the full nitrogen cycle after 5 weeks. before the cycle completed, i also started having a problem with the water turning muddy colored. this happened even when i refilled the water with absolutely no disturbance to the soil media. now that the nitrogen cycle has completed it seems to have somehow helped to stop the water from being so muddy. yes, there is still a tea color to the water but not muddy/cloudy as before.

Good stuff, good growth, worth the price
This product seems to be doing what I bought it for. My plants are growing like crazy without any additives. I used it without any of the other recommended products underneath. You need to gently rinse it a few times in a bowl before pouring into your tank, or your water will be too dark brown with dust to plant. I did not rinse mine because it looked dust-free; this was a mistake that prevented me from finishing the design for days. It took 5-6 weeks to get rid of the ammonia, even using lots of Stability and an entire pouch of Marineland bacteria, and many rocks in the tank, but water changes help. You will need long tweezers to plant in it, as the material displaces too easily for fingers. Give extra room to grow if you're moving from typical aquarium gravel, because your plants will be growing larger, faster. Fish and shrimp seem to be happy in the tank now, but I miss the aesthetic look of the natural gravel I had before. Amazonia isn't beautiful, so you'll want to plant a ground cover. I'm waiting for my HC to grow in between my tall rocks. I probably shouldn't have taken a star off for this, but it reflects the inability to have some good looking "bare" areas, while also having the performance you want, unless you are skilled at partitioning.

Did some homework and decided to go with live plants because of how much easy to care
Not much to say. I just got into the fish tank hobby. Started off with gravel substrate and some plastic plants. Did some homework and decided to go with live plants because of how much easy to care, low tech plants there were in the aquarium world. Didn't like how some of my rooted plants were doing, so I decided to get this substrate after doing some more research. Been going back and forth on some Eco-Complete and Flourite. Figured this was the way to go because I've heard nothing, but great things about this product. My plants are doing awesome with just this substrate alone and some API root tabs that I scattered throughout the tank with a nice Beamswork LED Lighting fixture. I gotta say, cycling was a breeze especially when you're not starting up a new tank and using old tank water with established filter. I love this product and will be using it in all my future planted tanks.
